VIP DECONTAMINATION VEHICLE

1. INTRODUCTION

CRISTANINI
We are in the presence of a planetary insecurity without precedents. Terrorist organizations are prepared to resort to novel forms of weapons such as spreading Chemical, Biological agents, Radiological or Nuclear (CBRN) materials to create significant levels of casualties targeting the main government political and economical buildings . victims are predominantly celebrities, heads of state, politicians, high levellevel corporate officers etc. The most notable recent case of attempted CW is the plot in 2004 by a group to explode chemically enhanced bombs at a government complex in Amman. This is creating an urgent requirement to find ways to preserve the health and safety of individual, groups of people, who may be contaminated as a result of a terrorist CBRN attack . The VIP Decontamination Vehicle enable protective security unit and organisations in charge of assuming the security and protection of persons to assure the complete process of the decontamination of 6 persons/hour ( including putting on noncontaminated clothes).

2 . DESCRIPTION The VIP Decontamination Vehicle described hereinafter, is an equipment designed and built by CRISTANINI S.p.A., on the basis of the long term experience in the domain of CBRN detoxification/decontamination all over the world, both in the military field and in the one of civil defence and protection. The shower water is pumped from the clean water tank to the water heater where it is warmed up to the adjusted shower water temperature , the decontaminant BX 29 is taken from the container of personnel decontamination product and automatically mixed with water and sprayed trough the shower heads. Contaminated water is collected in the contaminated water tank. In order to avoid a possible transfer of dangerous contaminants the interior of the VIP Decontamination Vehicle is ventilated. The air flow has a permanently opposite direction to the flow of person in the Vehicle. All the rooms of the VIP Decontamination Vehicle can be decontaminated by using the device PSDS 10 MIL p/n 240407 NATO Standard Number 4230-15-170-4160 detoxification/decontamination device (see pos. 11, annex 1) (for further information on

PSDS/10 MIL please consult our technical sheet UP 979 ) functioning with BX 24 detoxification / decontamination product (for further information on BX 24 please consult our technical sheet UP 899 , UP 852 ,UP 901 and UP 927), for detoxification / decontamination of materials, vehicles All the zones of the VIP Decontamination Vehicle may be kept over pressurized compared to the outside by a NBC filtering group. This group introduces outside filtered air directly in the zone for decontamination control and data registration , which is, therefore, the room with the highest pressure. In order to create different environment protection levels, the access doors to the zones are fitted with overpressure valves set at decreasing values starting from the highest one in the zone for decontamination control and data registration down to the minimum one of the valve of the shower zone (which is connected to the outside ). This creates, therefore, a dynamic protection through an airflow that from the zone for decontamination control and data registration flows to the shower zone and then to the outside. Before being expelled the air is filtered with HEPA (for further information please consult our technical sheet UP 1052 ) (Pos. 25, annex 1) (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter able to withhold 99.995% of particles with a diameter equal or superior to 0,3 m present in the air that goes through them. This configuration allows to create a dynamic barrier both between the VIP Decontamination zone (undressing/shower zone ) and the outside as well as between the zone for decontamination control and data registration and the undressing/shower zone. 3. PROCEDURE FOR THE UTILIZATION OF VIP DECONTAMINATION VEHICLE The person arriving at the VIP Decontamination Vehicle can reach the undressing zone by passing through the zone for contamination control , provided with instruments to determine the presence of contamination, after the person to be decontaminated has taken off his possibly contaminated clothes and placing it in the contaminated garment container through the expulsion hatch he moves to the entrance of the shower zone in the undressing zone ,enter the shower zone and starts the shower . the shower is Very

functional and suitable for fast personnel decontamination interventions, it has 3 shower heads at different heights that spray the person, evenly distributing water and the decontaminant product over the body. By switching the ON-OFF control the

decontaminant product can be mixed with water and sprayed through the shower heads, or cut out of the system, allowing rinsing. After having passed the shower zone the person dries himself off ,control the efficiency of

the decontamination process with the right instruments available, puts on his clothes in the dressing zone and leaves the VIP Decontamination Vehicle through the exit ramp. 4.
