CASE STUDY: (ANSWERS) 1.

Yes Sutapa Chakravarty have an ethical dilemma, as we can see after becoming the CFO and a member of the executive committee of a medium sized and moderately successful family. So she decided for the first time to right size to response the rapid change in the business. Beside that we can see that the CEO was relying on Sutapa to help him determine how to downsize in an ethical manner. CEO trusted Sutapa more that Kulvinder Kumar Sarao (Head of H.R Department). So the company decided to make its layoff decisions based on the annual performance appraisal scores of the scores of employees. When she was reviewing the evaluations, she was puzzled to find three departments in which the employee at the bottom of the list had N/A where the evaluation score should have been written. When she asked the company managers to explain, they told her these employees had been with the company since almost the beginning. When performance appraisals had been instituted eight years earlier, the CEO agreed to the long-time employees request that they keep receiving informal evaluations as they always had. So she raised this issue with the CEO, he responded, Oh, I know. I havent really evaluated them in a long time, but its time for them to retire anyway. They arent just performing the way they used to. As she was moving out the CEO said her that youve won over the executive committee. They think you are a terrific fit with this company. This is a company that cares for its employees as long as it can and as long as theyre producing. Always has, always will. So here it been proved that Sutapa was in an ethical dilemma. 2. The right thing to do now is to re- construct the organizations working and behavioral structure so that the gap between the departments and the employees not getting their appraisals will not happen. The action plan will be as follows: Prerequisites Performance planning Performance execution Performance assessment Performance review Performance renewal and re- contracting.

3. If Sutapa disagrees may be she would have been thrown out of the company so she thought to remain calm & go with the instructions of CEO. Thus she protect her own career and the interests of her own family
4. You should know that youve won over the executive committee; they think you are a terrific fit with this company. By this statement I think the CEO wants to tell Sutapa that dont waste time on the employee those who are not working in the organization and he also wants to state her that this company care for its employees as long as they are working, so if I find you also you will also be thrown out of the company if needed.

5. If I would have been in her place I would rather leave the organization instead of working because the CEO of the company is not at all bothered about his employees, secondly whatever he says it always has a double meaning and last but not the least my ethics will not permit to do so.
