Working independently how important is the physical environment you work in? Very important. I need to be surrounded by my books and I need a creative, clear space in which to work. The work space is very important, all work stems from it in a way. My studio is where I create. I am surrounded by my work, by inspiring work by others, by ephemera Ive found and most importantly, perhaps by my books. I have not only useful books on grids, typography etc. but well designed art monographs, experimental publications, zines etc. All of this informs who I am as a designer.

(Q) (1.1)

What key steps do you take from commission of work to production & final delivery?

(A) (1.1)

- Study the brief and budget and ask further questions for clarification. - Sketch any initial ideas and set up work folders to organise the job on my computer. - Research: materials, paper stocks etc.; typefaces; colours. - Put together a print spec and get an initial print estimate from printer (if its a print job). - Liaise with the client re: print costs and ideas. - Present initial design concept ideas to client. - Work up suitable design ideas.

When starting did you have a vision for the studio? and have you upheld it? When we started we wanted to keep the operation small. We wanted to be able to pick and choose the projects that we love and we know people will love back. We have upheld it as much as we could have done, without compromising or losing intergrity. This is something we are proud of. Our aim is to keep doing what we do.

Did you have a vision for your studio? and have you upheld it? Of course we do. Those studios that dont should find a rope and take a walk down to the basement. We uphold it by constantly try and live by it. To remind ourselves to have fun at work as well as maintaining an extremely high ambition existent at Snask.
