Insta-Challenge 1.2. - Spaghetti Tower

Introduction:
In this activity your team will quickly find a solution to a Spaghetti Tower challenge – to
design and build a tower from the provided materials that will be as tall and stable as
possible.

Equipment:

A total Combination of Thirty items:

● Spaghetti Noodles
● Mini Marshmallows

Procedure:

Using only the materials provided (combination of 30 Noodles and Marshmallows,

e.g. 15-15, 20-10, 5-25), design and build a tower to be as tall as possible. The tower
must be free standing (does not fall over). Marshmallow and noodles may be broken up
but only 30 ORIGINAL items may be used.

1. Brainstorm: Assign a recorder for your group. As a team, brainstorm as many ideas
for your tower as possible as the recorder documents your ideas in their
Engineering Notebook. You may handle and inspect the materials, but you may not
alter or connect any of the materials in any way during this phase. Select one of your
sketched ideas to pursue.

2. Build, Test, and Redesign: Build your tower. Test the tower as necessary and make
changes to your original ideas as needed.

3. Present: Each team will record the height of their tower and present it to the class.

Yes, I put noodles on top to make it taller and to stable it.
