When she put it on a stone, the wind flew it to the river and it reached the middle of sea. Amazingly, Landorunduns hair was glowing in the sunlight. Coincidentally, an adventurer, Bendurana saw it from his ship. Later, he ordered his companions to take that hair, but all of them came back wounded. Guess what! Bendurana then walked on water and took the hair himself. He rolled the hair over his arm, and surprisingly the hair turned to be very long. When he wondered the origin of the hair, a bird said to him where it came from. After hearing the birds explanation, he decided to follow the flock of birds to meet the owner of the hair. Finally, the ship dropped the anchor to a stone. You know, the stone nowadays is called Batu Sangkinan Lembang. Then, Bendurana planted a mango tree which instantly grew and had fruits. After that, he walked around the place and found Landorundun. He asked Landorundun to marry him, but she refused. She said that her father Solokang and her mother Lambe Susu werent ready to be separated from her. Then, Bendurana walked away, but he kept stalking Landorundun. The following day, when Landorundun took a bath in the river, she saw the mango tree that Bendurana had planted and picked the fruit. After she ate it, Bendurana asked her who ate his mango. Landorundun said the shepherd boys did it, but the boys said Landorundun did. Finally, Landorundun surrendered and agreed to marry Bendurana. However, Bendurana had another problem. He had to find a way to take Landorundun with him, apart from her parents. Yeah, he got one. To trick her mother Lambe Susu, Bendurana gave her a bottle with a large hole on its bottom, and ordered Lambe Susu to fill it with water. When Lambe Susu realized that she had been tricked, she just saw her daughter sailed away. Far from her land, at the wedding ceremony, Landorundun wasnt happy, and kept quiet. But when a man brought a crow with invalid legs, she laughed seeing the crow jumping in an odd way.

After her friend left, the Witch looked around her house and she said to herself, My friend was right. My house looks ugly and the paint is faded. I have to repaint it. Then, she went to the shop and bought a can of paint. After lunch she started to paint, and she worked very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part of her house. When she wanted to start the upper part, she found out that she couldnt reach it. Then, she got an idea, I will use my magic broom! She shouted, Broom, turn into a paint brush and paint my walls! Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and it started to paint the upper walls. It worked very fast, and in ten minutes all job was done. The Witch was very happy.

Contoh jawaban: Let me tell you about a true friendship between rats and elephants. Long-long ago a group of rats lived peacefully under a tree. However, one day a group of elephants crossed the jungle. Unknowingly, they had already destroyed the homes of all the rats. Even, many of the rats were killed. Then, with all his courage, the king of rats appeared before the elephant chief. He told the chief what had happened to his group, so he asked the chief and his herd to take another route. After hearing the king of rats story, the elephant chief felt regretful. He asked for an apology and promised to take another route. The elephant chief kept his promise and so the lives of the rats were saved. On the other day, elephant-hunters came to the jungle. They set up a huge net to trap elephants. It worked. Some elephants, including the elephant chief, were trapped in the net. On his despair, suddenly the elephant chief remembered his friend, the king of the rats. Then, he ordered one of the elephants of his herd, which had not been trapped, to ask for help from the king of rats. Before the king of rats, the elephant told him what had happened to his chief and other elephants. Immediately, the rat king led his group to the place where the elephants were trapped. Arriving there, the king ordered his entire group to cut open the nets. Finally, all the elephants were freed. Then, they danced with happiness and were very grateful for the rats.

The eagle hatched with the chicks and grew up with them. All his life the eagle did what the backyard chickens did, thinking he was one of them. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day, he saw a magnificent bird far above. It glided beautifully with its strong golden wings. The old eagle looked up in the sky. Who is that? he asked. Thats the eagle, the king of the birds, he belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth. We are chickens. said his neighbor. So, the eagle lived and died a chicken for thats what he thought he was.

When Sau Ling had become a young man, a fortune teller came to the house. You must send your son away, he said. One day . . . he will become a thief and cause you a lot of trouble. Mr. and Mrs. Lin were very sad to hear this. However, they believed what the fortune teller said. So, they sadly gave Sau Ling some clothes and money and sent him away. Several years later, Sau Ling was having a meal in an inn several miles from Taipei. He put his bag on the floor near his table. After finishing his meal, he picked up his bag. Thats strange! he thought, It feels so heavy. He looked inside. Do you know what inside the bag was! Well, . . . the bag was full of small gold bars. Soon, he realized that someone had taken his bag by mistake and left another bag, in its place. That evening, a young man came to the inn. He asked all visitors there, Has anyone seen my bag? On hearing it, Sau Ling found out who had left the bag, so he returned the bag to him. The young man thanked him. You are really very honest, he said, I shall ask my father to give you a job. Surely, Sau Ling felt so happy. Actually, the young mans father was a rich merchant. He gave Sau Ling a good job. But go home first, he said, and take a holiday. Then, Sau Ling returned to Taipei. Of course Mr. and Mrs. Lin were delighted to see him again. The fortune teller was also present. Sau Ling told them what had happened. Um . . . the fortune teller did not know what to say. He left the house without saying a word. You know, ever since that Mr. and Mrs. Lin never believed in fortune tellers. Then, Sau Ling took them to live with him and they were very happy and contented until the end of their lives.

No, replied the trumpeter, I cannot fight. I can only blow my horn, and make music for those who are at war. As for this trumpeter, he can do us no harm for he has neither sword nor bow, one of the robbers said. They released the trumpeter but took away his wallet. Then, the trumpeter said, You are welcome, friends, but let me play you a tune on my horn.

Contoh jawaban: Once upon a time, in a peaceful side of this country, there lived a boy named Raditya and a girl named Pervita. Both of them had been good friends since they were kids. One day something happened that led them to be apart. Pervita and her parents had to move to another town. However, both Raditya and Pervita believed that someday they would meet again. Pervita said that she would be waiting for that moment. Then, there was Raditya left alone. What a poor boy! Since that moment they had lost contact. A few years passed. Since it seemed that it was a destiny for Raditya and Pervita to meet again after a quite long time. Certainly, they had changed. Pervita had grown to be a pretty young woman, while Raditya became a handsome young man. But, their feeling to each other never changed. They still loved and missed each other. Luckily, Pervitas parents welcomed Raditya well because they knew that he was a good person. But, the happy moment didnt last long. One day, Pervitas parents heard bad news about Radityas father. Somebody had told them that Radityas father was a criminal. He had blackmailed his company, so he sent to jail for ten years. To find out the fact, they forbade Raditya to meet Pervita or vice versa. Even, they forced her to break up with Raditya. Certainly, the young lovers strongly refused it. They loved each other. Furthermore, it was unfair to judge Raditya because of his fathers bad attitude. They were different persons. Though it was not allowed, they kept on seeing each other. One day, something terrible happened to Pervita. The day was already dark, around ten p.m. she was walking home alone. On the way, three drunken men stopped her and tried to do bad things to her. She screamed for help, but nobody heard. Coincidentally, Raditya passed the street. He fought against those men. He was bleeding, but he won and Pervita was safe. Arriving home, Pervita told everything to her parents. They were very grateful for what Raditya had done. One important thing was they approved Pervita and Radityas relationship. The young couple felt so happy.

Contoh jawaban: The inhabitants in the village of Mimika were busy that day. They prepared 12 boats and set off to the upper course of the river, to find sago, the main food for people, there like rice in most of Asian nations or wheat in the Western. After three days, their boats were filled with sagos, and they headed home. But in the area of Tamanipia, they were raided by a dragon, and their boats were struck by great waves, caused by the swings of the dragons tail. Most of them were drown, but a woman managed to save herself, jumped to the ground and hid on a tree. She was the only one who survived and she was pregnant. She managed to survive in the strange tree, eating its fruits and roots. She was still cautious about the dragon, and listened to every noise that she heard until she gave a birth to his son. She named her son Biwar. She raised Biwar and gave him some skills, like how to make various weapons, setting traps to catch animals, creating fire, and singing well, playing tifa, a traditional music instrument like African drums. Biwar became a handsome, strong and healthy man. Hes so good in aiming arrows and hunting, and he always brought home a lot of fish and deer for food. When his mother saw him bringing fish, she asked where Biwar got them. He said it was from the upper course of the river. Then, she forbade him to go there and told him about his father and friends that were killed by the dragon. Biwar decided to kill the dragon and set traps in the mouth of a cave. Then, he played his tifa and sang near it. It attracted the dragon and it moved toward the caves mouth. When it entered its head to the mouth of the cave, Biwar pulled the rope that linked to his traps, and numbers of weapons like spears, daggers, arrows and clubs, hit the head of the dragon. It screamed and rocked its body very hard, then died. Biwar came home and told his mother. The next day, they set the sail, to return to their homeland. The people in Mimika were very happy, and they held a ceremony, to welcome the Biwar as a citizen of Mimika.

This text is for questions 16 to 20. The Three Sheiks and Queen of Arabia Maura, who liked to be thought of as the most beautiful and powerful queen of Arabia, had many suitors. One by one she discarded them until her list was reduced to just three sheiks, all equally young and handsome, rich and strong. It was very hard to decide who would be the best of them. One evening, Maura disguised herself and went to the camp of the three sheiks as they were about to have dinner, and asked them for something to eat. The first gave her some leftover food; the second gave her some unappetizing camels tail; the third sheiks, who was called Hakim, offered her some of the most tender and tasty meat. After dinner, the disguised queen left the sheiks camps. The following day the queen invited the three sheiks to have dinner at her palace. She ordered her servants to give each one exactly what they had given her the evening before. Hakim, who received a plate of delicious meat, refused to eat it if the other two could not share it with him, and this act finally convinced Queen Maura that he was the man for her. Without question, Hakim is the most generous of you, she announced her choice to the sheiks. So, it is Hakim I will marry.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning, the kind that brings all Gods creatures out to play. But not these farm folk. No, they just slept and slept and slept. The crows were gathered in a large oak tree, having a big morning meeting. They noticed that there was nobody stirring around the house, and that the corn was ripe in the field. So they adjourned their meeting mighty quick and flew over to the field to eat some corn. Caw-n, caw-n, they cackled excitedly. The old rooster woke up to their activities and started to crow excitedly to the sleeping family. Wake up, wake up, wake up! The farmer and his wife just kept sleeping, and the crows kept eating the corn. Caw-n, caw-n, they called. The crows are in the corn! The crows are in the corn! The rooster cock-a-doodle-dooed with all his might. The farmer kept snoring, and his wife just rolled over and pulled the pillow over her head. The rooster was frantic. He tried once more: The crows are in the corn. Theyre pulling up the corn! The farmer and his wife kept right on sleeping. And the crows kept right on eating.
