: AS/FGHS/WW/JIS : Engineers : TSK BITS PERFORMANCE : September 2002

We make a study and analysis of the performance of TSK rock bits with the size of 8 and 12 RB. We compare it with Reed bits that we have been used into our wells, development and exploration well. The data are collected from January 2002 until now. Parameters to evaluate the bits are cost/ft and final bit condition after ran. 12 Rock Bits Development well (Kaji Semoga, Soka) Some bits used in directional wells and the calculations as table bellows:

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION 12 Reed bit (MHT11GKP 117 M) have excellent performance when drilled development wells (kaji semoga area). 1 bit can drilled into 6 well with lowest cost bit/ft US$ 4.39 or compared to TSK bit (SSTMGP 117 M), we can save to US$ 7,800. We have no data for exploration well with other bits in 12 size. One TSK bit can drill 1 well with bit cost/ft as lowest as to US$ 5.28. We have experienced 12 RB TSK in Rambutan-deep#1 well, drilled with 3 bits from 1500 to 5000 ft, all the bits had grading for the bearing was not effective seal, with tooth was variance between 3 to 6 scale, bits drilled in shale stone formation. 8 RB TSK (117 M) has good performance in development wells compared to Reed bit, but some input from personnel in field and my experienced, found the bearing is not effective seal, one of three cones had shaky or insecure.

My experienced in Jata#2, 8 TSK (117 M) drilled in sandstone formation, when pull out the bit found the cone was shaky, suspected that the seal on bearing is not effective. We had run it with motor assemblies. 8 RB TSK (517) drilled in medium to hard formation (Baturaja and Basement) in exploration well, has fair performance compared to Hughes bits. In development well 1 bit can drilled into 2 wells. Reed bit in 2001 can drilled 2 until 3 wells only with one bit. To accept TSK product in our operations, they should have considered to: 1. Improvement in Seal bearing, reliability of the bit is absolutely depending on this seal. Since we will drill slim hole (6 to 6 1/8) in further operation. They have to make a reliability chart every bit. 2. Improvement in teeth or cutter, my experienced found the teeth in outer was broken in 2 run. 3. Gage protection in this bit is very good, almost 2 run is development well the condition of the gage is in gage.

I formally recommend using TSK bit if they can fulfill the requirement as mentioned above, if not we can using another manufacture such reed bits.

Respectfully submitted by,

Gustioro
