Subject: KWIK Bolt TZ tension and shear values for installation in

lightweight concrete over metal deck with 3-7/8-inch flute
width

Preliminary testing of Hilti KWIK Bolt TZ (KB-TZ) anchors in lightweight concrete

poured over metal deck with a 3-7/8-inch flute width has been performed at the
Hilti Test Laboratory. Testing was performed in accordance with ICC-ES
Acceptance Criteria for Mechanical Anchors in Concrete Elements (AC193)
series 21 and 22. This document provides strength design load variables and
tables based on the results of this testing intended to be used in ACI 318
Appendix D calculations.

may be increased by the factor (f ‘c /3,000) .
2
Evaluation of concrete breakout capacity is not required for anchors installed in the lower flute.
The following tables contain pre-calculated strength design values according to
ACI 318-11 Appendix D based on the variables in Table 1 and Figure 1.

1
Capacity of a single anchor installed in accordance with Figure 1. The respective tension or
shear reduction factors according to ACI 318 D.4.3 have been applied. For more information
about prefactored strength design loads, see the 2014 Hilti Product Technical Guide, Section
3.1.7.
2
Linear interpolation between embedment depths and concrete compressive strengths is not
permitted.
3
Tabular value is for one anchor per flute. Minimum spacing along the length of the flute is 3 x
hef (effective embedment).
4
Tabular values are for lightweight concrete and no additional reduction factor is needed.
5
Comparison of the tabular values to the steel strength is not necessary. Tabular values control.
6
Tabular values are for static loads only. For seismic tension loads, multiply cracked concrete
tabular values in tension by αN,seis = 0.75.
7
For the following anchor sizes, an additional factor for seismic shear must be applied to the
cracked concrete tabular values in shear for seismic conditions:
3/8-inch diameter - αv,seis = 0.63
5/8-inch diameter - αv,seis = 0.94
This technical bulletin provides strength design loads for metal deck profiles with
a minimum 3-7/8-inch lower flute width until ICC-ES ESR-1917 can be formally
updated to supplement the existing data with 4-1/2-inch lower flute widths.
