A36 is one of the most widely used grades of steel plate.
It is used in practically every industry and its applications

A572
A572 is a high strength low alloy steel
plate used in a variety of structural
applications. It is produced in Grades 42,
50, 60 & 65the grades representing the
yield strength. The most common grade
Chapel stocks is Grade 50 which is
produced up to 4 thick. Anything over
4 is made to a Grade 42, although we
often stock it modified to reach the 50
ksi min yield. On requirements for this
please inquire. We also stock Grade 60 in
limited quantities.

A588 / A606 / A242

A588 is a high-strength low-alloy steel plate used in structural
applications such as bridges and buildings. Its advantage over A572 50
is its weathering ability, which provides atmospheric corrosion
resistance and ultimately longer life in applications where exposure to
elements will be a factor. We generally stock this material as A588 Gr A
& B in plate and 606 in sheet.
Mechanical Properties A588:
Tensile: 70 ksi min (4 and under), 67 ksi min (4- 5) 63 ksi min (Over 5-8)
Yield: 50 ksi min (4 and under), 46 ksi min (4- 5) 42 ksi min (Over 5-8)

A709 Grade 36, Grade 50, Grade 50W

A709 is the specification used for steel plate used in the manufacture of
bridges. Chapel Steel stocks A709 Grade 36, A709 Grade 50 and A709
Grade 50W. These grades are often specified with charpy tests
referencing the specific zone (or climatic region) in which the bridge will
be in use. The charpys are specified as non-fracture critical which is a per
heat test (frequency H), or fracture critical which is a per plate test
(Frequency P). Bridge steels can also be ordered to the ASSHTO M270
Spec referenced as AASHTO M270 Grade 36, AASHTO M270 Grade 50,
AASHTO M270 Grade 50W.

Canadian steel plate in grade G40.21 44W.
44W is sometimes referred to with its metric
designations of 300W. When referenced with
a T, such as 300WT, this indicates that
charpy tests are required. When Charpy
tests are required, the category will be

In addition to the 44W Chapel Steel also stocks the higher strength
Canadian steel plate in grades G40.21 50W and G40.21 50A . 50A has a
higher alloy content than 50W which contributes to its weathering ability.
Both 50W and 50A are sometimes referred to with their metric
designations of 350W and 350A. When referenced with a T, such as
50WT, this indicates that charpy tests are required. When Charpy tests
are required, the category will be indicated. Value of categories are
described below in mechanical properties.
