NOTE FROM MR PALFREY

Well, we have been back now for 3 weeks and the school is in great shape. The student roll is increasing and all the students are engaged in learning. ! Just some reminders to make sure everybody is safe and happy. You will notice that this time of the year is very hot; we regard the wearing of hats during the day in the sun as very important and ask you to make sure your child wears a school hat, which can be purchased from the Uniform Shop, or you can get a second-hand hat for $5 from the school ofce while stocks last.!

Open Day on:! ! Thursday 13th March from 11:30 3:00pm. ! You are invited to visit your childrens rooms during this time, meet all their teachers and spend lunchtime with your children. Should you wish to meet with me, or Mrs. Baxter, you will be welcome to do so.! Thank you again to all those parents who have already bought their childrens stationery; if you are having difculty providing books for your child, please inform the ofce. ! I notice that there are a lot of children getting picked up before school nishes. Please dont do this unless it is urgent as it disrupts your childs learning.! This year our major focus within the New Zealand Curriculum is Writing. To help childrens writing at school they need to have experiences to build their vocabulary and understanding. I encourage all parents to talk more with their children about what they are doing each day, what they are reading, and any family events to help them with increasing their language, which supports their writing.! We look forward to seeing you on 13 March.!

Achievements have ranged from learning how to write their own name, to reciting times tables, and treating other children with respect.!

C0s KINGS AND QUEENS

To start the year off C0 decided to create a self-portrait. ! We wanted to show that we are the kings and queens of our learning by wearing beautiful, colourful crowns! To make our self portraits we used vivid, crayon and dye.

THE BEGINNING OF 2014 AT MEP!

Hi my name is Liana. I am in Taurapa and I am in year 4. ! I have got a new teacher this year and her name is Whaea Sharmain .! I am happy to be at school because I'm ready to learn and I wanted to know who my teacher was. I have enjoyed the games we have played that kids from the olden days used to play. We played with the potaka; it is like beyblades, but you use a whip to make the potaka go faster. We also learnt whai, which are string games. It is pretty hard to do whai because you need to do lots of twists and turns. !
