In Search of Low-touch Solution for App Distribution We didnt want to host something on our infrastructure, says Santam Digital Projects Team Lead Henri Knoesen. But we wanted to provide a professional-looking catalog that was easy for our not-so-tech-savvy brokers to use. However these brokers arent tech savvy. So in addition to getting them up to speed on the latest Santam products and policies, technology was the central theme of this years annual Intermedary Conference. In advance of the conference, the company internally developed several mobile app tools to enhance broker productivity and facilitate the claims process: Some solutions were too focused on mobile device management (MDM), while others lacked the ability to provide an elegant app storefront. Ulti- mately Knoesen determined that Apperians enterprise mobile app manage- ment (MAM) suited Santams needs most closely. Within hours of creating an Apperian account, Santam mobile administrator Alex van Olst was up and running in Apperians cloud-based MAM platform, and within a week had a fully func- tional app catalog ready for brokers. Apperian greatly simplifes the process for creating and managing secure apps, and then to distribute, update, monitor, and provision them across a workforce. Ease of Use Critical for Adoption Creating our mobile app catalog on the Apperian platform was pretty much DIY, says Knoesen. We had a few questions that Apperian answered immediately that streamlined the deployment process even further. Santams app catalog was unveiled at this years Intermediary Conference to great fanfare and positive reaction by brokers. Apperian provides the bro- kers with a familiar app store interface from which to choose apps, view ad- ditional information, and access app-related training materials on their iOS, Android, and Blackberry devices. To date more than 1,000 brokers have logged into Apperian, and Knoesen believes the company is on a great track for rapid mobile app adoption to ensure brokers and Santam alike achieve their business goals. Future plans for mobile app deployment through Apperian include giving its almost 3,000 employees access to a staf directory with a social media element, to encourage connectivity among its large workforce. This is just the beginning of our digital journey, says Knoesen.
