Call for Participant for Debate Training

In one week you will get a basic introduction to debate, articulation and
presentation; to Land grabbing and Tax-justice in a human rights based
perspective; and through action-learning methods you will get a chance to
practice debate on these topics. Debate is a method for co-creating new
constructive knowledge and a relevant tool to further ActionAid
International Kenyas campaigns on the topic above.
By the end of this training you will be a stronger debater and able to plan
and conduct workshops and training sessions using Debate as a tool.
What is this training about?
As a speaking and presentation based training that is meant to spur ideas
and how to articulate them, it will lay emphasis to Global Platforms ideals
focusing on action learning or "learning by doing and experience based
learning.
On completing the course, you can expect to have developed the acumen
to debate, develop constructive new knowledge, practical tools and to
have developed the skills and attitude to be capable to plan then execute
creative educational programs and facilitate inclusive processes that will
give young people skills to act and unleash their potential to change the
world. Throughout the program, you will:
Get introduced to the Debate concept and how to employ the debate
tactics
How to develop the critical thinking capability through the debate
Take part in participatory processes such as idea generation and
how to articulate the ideas
Delve deeper into the aspects of argumentation and refutation
Get introduced to human rights-based approach to creating social
change
Debate the core concepts of ActionAids campaigns on Land Grabs
and Tax Justice in Kenya
Learn how to institute debate programmes for diverse groups within
our communities for various issues
Who is this training for?
This course targets youth passionate about debates, structured
argumentation and with intent to institute debate programmes back in the
communities.

The training will run in English, so participants should have fair English
skills.
It is our experience that it can be a challenge to implement new method in
a practice after the training, therefore we encourage that Local Rights
Programs (LRPs) send two participants per LRP.
Practical information
The price is 300 USD. This price includes: tuition fees, training materials,
accommodations in dorms. The price does NOT include transport to and
from the Global Platform and insurance during the stay.
We have a few available scholarships covering the accommodation,
tuition fee and food during the training. Transport and living allowances
will NOT be covered by the scholarship.
