G321: Foundation Portfolio in Media
This is a course&ork unit &here candidates produce a media artefact from a series of briefs# This process in$ol$es progression from
a pre'production( preliminary e"ercise to a more fully realised piece# The briefs offered are) print( $ideo( audio and &ebsite#
Candidates present their research and planning in either paper'based or digital format and do an e$aluation in digital format( based
on se$en re*uired prompt *uestions# This unit is internally assessed and e"ternally moderated#

Preliminary e"ercise) using DTP and an image manipulation program produce the front page of a ne& school+college magazine(
featuring a photograph of a student in medium close'up plus some appropriately laid'out te"t and a masthead#
,dditionally candidates must produce a DTP mock'up of the layout of the contents page to demonstrate their grasp of the program#
-ain task) the front page( contents and double page spread of a ne& music magazine .if done as a group task( each member
magazine( follo&ing the same house style/# -a"imum four members to a group#

The purpose of this unit is firstly to assess students0 ability to plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and
creati$e skills# 1econdly to assess students0 application of kno&ledge and understanding in e$aluating their o&n &ork( sho&ing ho&
meanings and responses are created# 2inally to assess students0 ability to undertake( apply and present appropriate research# The
unit re*uires students to engage &ith contemporary media technologies( gi$ing them the opportunity for de$elopment of skills in
these technologies#
This is a course&ork unit( internally assessed and e"ternally moderated# 1tudents produce a media artifact in response to briefs set
by 3C4 plus some appropriate e$idence of research and planning# The task pro$ides progression from a pre'production( preliminary
e"ercise to a more fully realised piece in the same medium# This offers the opportunity for skills de$elopment to be assessed( as &ell
as a final finished piece#
