LESSON AIMS:
- To develop Ss' speaking competences
- To revise and reinforce grammar concerning past simple, past continuous, past
perfect and time clauses
- To encourage speaking and comprehension skills
OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson the Ss will be able to:
- Use correctly the revised grammar problems
- Use the new words and phrases in particular circumstances
- Create their own situations and deal with new circumstances in a conversation

Stages:

Activity 1: Warm-up (3min)

Teacher's activity: T enters the classroom, greets the Ss, asks them how they
are, if there are any Ss miss ing. T remembers the task for the day, ex. 1, 2 pg
19 from the textbook and asks Ss to review it quickly to make sure there were
no problems with solving it at home. T corrects the mistakes, if any.
Students' activity: Ss greet the T, answer the questions and in turn read the
exercises.

Activity 2: (5 min)

Teacher's activity: T asks Ss to read the article and choose the correct answers
in pairs. In pairs, Ss check their mistakes.
Students' activity: Ss choose the answers then check in pairs.

Activity 3: (5 min)

Teacher's activity: T points out the example in the SB: to amaze (verb), amazing
(adjective with -ing), amazed (adjective with -ed), amazement (noun) and asks
the Ss to complete the chart in pairs. Then T elicits the answers from the whole
class, paying particular attention to spelling and to noun endings.
Students' activity: Ss complete the chart in groups.

Activity 4: (5 min)

Teacher's activity: T points out the example in the SB: She looked at him in
complete amazement. and asks the Ss to complete the sentences with the
correct part of speech from the verbs: amaze, excite, frighten, please, horrify,
surprise and thrill. Then T checks the answers with the whole class.
Students' activity: Ss complete the sentences in pairs, then check the answers
with the whole class

Activity 5: Phrasal Verbs with Give (5min)

Teacher's activity: T shows Ss the example in the textbook. Ss are asked to look
for another example in the article. T checks with the whole class give up (= stop)
work. T asks Ss to complete the sentences on page 125 with the correct form of
give away, give out, give back, give up or give in and then goes through the
answers with the whole class.
Students' activity: Ss perform their task.

Activity 6: (5min)

Teacher's activity: T writes on the blackboard: He was watching the National
Lottery live on television. He found out that he had won 1.7 million. and elicits
the names of the tenses in the grammar snapshot from the whole class

Activity 7: A Strange Vanishing Act (5min)

Teacher's activity: T preteaches essential vocabulary: to vanish and missing
person. T asks the Ss to fill in the gaps in pairs with the correct form of the verb.
T goes through the answers with the whole class and checks Ss understand
another dimension and encourage discussion: What do you think happened?
Students' activity: Ss perform the task.

Activity 8: How Do You Explain It? (5min)

Teacher's activity: T asks students to to explain several amazing situations: a
woman in a business suit throwing a brick through a car window, a smartly
dressed woman looking through a dustbin, a man climbing in through his dining
room window, a young man crawling on his hands and knees with his head
bentdown looking at the pavement.
Students' activity: Ss solve their task.

Activity 9: Comprehension (5 min)

Teacher's activity: T aks the Ss to read the text and the statements and in pairs
decide true, false or don't know. T goes through the answers with the whole
class

Teacher's activity: The T shows the Ss the example in the textbook and asks
them to make similar conversations for the given situations.
