Aims (for the teacher):


- to engage and motivate students in the activities
- to develop listening skills
- to develop reading skills
- to introduce future continuous tense to express ongoing actions in the future
- to encourage students to express freely and spontaneously on the topic
- to provide further practice for the use of verb can in real life situations

Objectives (for students)By the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
- to describe some pictures and predict the topic of the lesson
- to listen for gist
- to read a text for specific information
- to elicit the form and meaning of the new grammatical structures from examples
- to use correctly the verb can in sentences
- to use the verb can in real life situations

Anticipated problems:
- They may not understand the meaning of some words
- Ss may make mistakes when talking or writing

Assumptions:
- Ss are familiar with different types of exercises and interaction when practising
language

Activity 1
Aim: to check the understanding of the previous lesson
Objective : to use correctly the possessive(’s/s’-of the)
Procedure: T checks students’ homework.
Teacher indicates where the error is, but lets the students correct themselves.
Teacher expresses her opinions about the way SS accomplished the given task.
Class organization: T-Ss, frontal

Activity 2
Aims: to engage and motivate students in the activities
Objective: to describe some pictures and predict the topic of the lesson
Procedure:T asks students to look in their texbooks on page 44 and guess what the lesson is
about considering the title and the pictures. Teacher writes the title of the new lesson on the
blackboard and announces the objectives.

Activity 3
Aims: to develop listening skills
Objective: to listen for gist
Procedure: Teacher tells students they will listen about superheroes. Then they solve ex 1
in their notebooks. They are asked to match the sentences to the characters who appear in the
text. In pairs, students answer the questions. Teacher checks the answers with the whole
class.

Time: 10 min

Activity 4:
Aim:to develop reading skills
Objective: to read for specific information
Procedure: Teacher asks students to read the text. The new words are discussed and written
down. Students are asked to mark the statements in ex 2 according to what they read. In pairs,
students solve the task. T checks the answers with the whole class.

Activity 5:
Aim :to introduce inductively the form and use of verb can
Objective: to elicit the forms and the meaning of the new structure from examples
Procedure:T asks students some questions related to the text they have just read. Teacher
writes on the board a sentence from the text. Then students are given some sentences with the
words in the wrong order and they have to unscramble them in order to infer the three forms
of the verb can.(affirmative, negative, interrogative, short answers-worksheet-ex. 1). The
sentences are written on the blackboard in the right order and teacher explains each form.
Teacher helps Ss with questions to understand the meaning of the structure used. Ss are
asked to solve exercise 2 on their worksheets. They have to choose the correct alternative
related to the use.

Activity 6
Aim: to encourage students to express freely and spontaneously on the topic
Objective: to use correctly the verb can in sentences
Procedure:Teacher tells students she has some cards with activities. Teacher asks a student
to draw a card. He/She has to mime the action using can. The student who guesses comes to
the front of the class and mimes another action. Students are asked to solve ex 3 on their
worksheets. They have to use the corret form of can according to the pictures and the given
prompts. Students are asked to solve ex. 4 on their worksheet. They write true answers about
themselves.

Activity 7
Aim: to provide further practice for the use of verb can in real life situations
Objective: to use the verb can in real life situations
Procedure: Students are divided into pairs and asked to solve ex. 5 on their worksheets. They
are asked to write questions and answers using can and the verbs given. Teacher checks the
answers with the whole class.

Time:8 min

*If there is time left students will do ex 6 on their worksheets, if not, it will be given
as homework.
Assigning homework
