William H. Bromley
Oct. 27, 2014
Dr. William H. Bromley of Had-
donfield passed away on Oct. 27 at
the age of 78.
He was the beloved husband
for 53 years of Lois (nee Opal);
loving father of William II D.O.
(Susan), Mark, Steven M.D.
(Pamela) and Constance Loggans
(Christopher); and cherished
grandfather of Alexandria,
Kendall, Morgan, Emma, Clay-
ton, Pearle, Lyncoln, Steven Jr.,
Kaitlyn and Kristen.
Dr. Bromley was a graduate of
Penn State University and Lin-
coln Chiropractic College and
practiced in Audubon for more
than 54 years. He served as presi-
dent of New Jersey Chiropractic
Association in 1969 and later be-
came president of the American
Chiropractic Association. He re-
ceived the ACA Chiropractor of
the Year Award and was recently
honored as its
oldest living
president. Dr.
Bromley also
served as pres-
ident of the
National Chi-
ropractic Mu-
tual Insurance
Company for
seven years
and was presi-
dent of the American College of
Chiropractic Orthopedists on two
occasions. In addition, he
achieved a position as Fellow of
the Academy of Chiropractic Or-
thopedists. Dr. Bromley was also
an active and beloved member
and civic leader in his communi-
ty. He enjoyed being an active
golfing member of Tavistock
Country Club, serving on Board
of Governors, and Royal Poin-
ciana Country Club in Naples,
Fla. He also enjoyed dedicating
his time to charity and served as
a trustee of the Ronald McDonald
House of Kids. Dr. Bromley was a
devoted Rotarian for more than 50
years. He was a member of the
Audubon club from 1961-1984, and
served as its president. He then
joined the Haddonfield club and
served as its president in 1997-
1998 and served as Rotary district
governor in 2001-2002. He was one
of just 50 district governors
around the world to receive an
award from RI President Richard
D. King for his membership devel-
opment efforts. Above all of these
accomplishments, his greatest
passion was spending time with
family and friends.
Dr. Bromleys family received
friends on Monday evening Nov. 3
from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Had-
donfield United Methodist
Church on 29 Warwick Road. All

Children in grades kindergarten
through fifth are welcome to join a tradi-
tion that dates back to 1949 here in Haddon-
field wrestling. Registration is open via
www.haddonfieldwrestling.com.
Haddonfield Memorial High School has
produced some of the regions top
wrestlers including several state champi-
ons and national competitors.
Along with developing a solid founda-
tion in wrestling and athletics in general,
children will benefit from a positive social
experience in a sport that encourages inde-
pendence and self-reliance, said former
wrestler and current HMHS Principal
Chuck Klaus.
The youth program is very closely
aligned with the high school program and
Head Coach Mike Miller. Miller is current-
ly a history teacher, football coach and for-
mer HMHS wrestler. All of the youth prac-
tices take place at the HMHS wrestling
room. Practice begins the week of Nov. 17.
The practices are split between grades
kindergarten through second and third
through fifth. All match opponents are as-
signed based on age, weight and skill level.
All matches are coached by certified Had-
donfield coaches and supervised by profes-
sional referees.
All of the youth home matches take
place at HMHS. The season begins with a
home match on Dec. 21 and continues
through the league championship tourna-
ment at Clearview on Feb. 15.

istration forms, please contact haddon-

N
ew Jersey businesses need
help, not more regulations.
But, unfortunately, our state
government is proposing more restric-
tions for employers in the name of
more rights for workers.
Last week, a state Assembly com-
mittee proposed a bill that would guar-
antee paid sick leave to almost all
workers in New Jersey. Workers in
both the private and public sectors
would accrue one hour of paid sick
leave for every 30 hours worked, and
would be allowed to carry forward be-
tween five and nine days from one
year to the next, depending on the size
of the company.
For a full-time employee who works
40 hours per week, that would equate
to almost nine guaranteed paid sick
leave days per year.
Proponents of the bill say it would
add an increased level of security for
the nearly 1.1 million New Jersey em-
ployees who are unable to earn paid
leave right now. Under the proposal,
paid sick leave could be taken for ones
own illness, or to care for another.
Not surprisingly, business groups in
the state are against the proposal, and
you can count us among those who
feel its bad for business.
A story in the Asbury Park Press,
published last week, quotes Danielle
Cyr, the New Jersey director for Amer-
icans of Prosperity, who says that 80
percent of small businesses fail within
their first 18 months of operation,
even without mandates such as paid
sick leave that she said small business-
es cant afford. One thing she said
wraps it up firmly:
Business growth inevitably leads
to improved benefits and pay, but it is
regulations like these that stop growth
before it can begin.
We couldnt agree more.
A Bloomberg study recently found
that job growth in New Jersey was less
than a third of that of New York, and,
adjusted for inflation, our states medi-
an household income declined 12.2
percent, compared to 3.9 percent na-
tionally.
At a time when New Jersey is reel-
ing from a lack of job growth and job
loss on a major scale, small businesses
in the state dont need more restrictive
regulations. They need help, incen-
tives, not more reasons not to hire.
The motivation behind paid sick
leave is noble, but it isnt necessary. If
our government would focus on stimu-
lating business and not stunting it, we
wouldnt have this problem.
in our opinion
No more business regulations
Government shouldnt pass paid sick leave bill

In addition to the public, local

day set aside to thank and honor
those who have served honorably
in the military, during both times
of war and peace.
In recent years, Post 38 has
moved its Veterans Day Service
into the HMHS Auditorium be-
cause of past problems with in-
clement weather. Its success has
led to an agreement between Post
38 and HMHS to conduct these
Veterans Day Services in the au-
ditorium and encourage available
students to attend the service.
The program will include an
opening prayer, the Pledge of Al-
legiance, a POW-MIA Flag Cere-
mony, the Star-Spangled Ban-
ner, short readings by selected
Post officers, remarks by Post 38
Commander Jon Batchelor and

10 THE HADDONFIELD SUN NOV. 511, 2014

The Camden County

Comeback
One thousand
three hundred and
forty-five, this num-
ber represents our
gains and the insti-
tutional shift in our
public safety strat-
egy throughout
Camden City. Today
there are 1,345 less
victims of crime
compared to the same time period
in 2012. This number struck me
as we went over the latest statis-
tical crime analysis from Camden
County Police Chief Scott Thom-
son. Since the Camden County
Police Department was launched
there has been a marked reduc-
tion in crime and homicides. This
year has seen a 56 percent reduc-
tion in homicides since 2012 and
a 47 percent decrease in shooting
victims.
In a relatively short period of
time several neighborhoods have
been stabilized and sidewalks
have become safer throughout
the city. From public safety to eco-
nomic development, optimism
abounds as national and interna-
tional brands come to call Cam-
den home, expanding
opportunities to the residents
and bringing hope back to the
county seat.
Over the last year we have
made tremendous strides in
building on the citys foundation
and returning it to a firm and vi-
able municipality. A stark de-
crease in crime, an upgraded
bond rating and hundreds of mil-
lions of dollars in new invest-
ment have us moving in a positive
direction. In addition, one of the
largest industrial developments
in New Jersey is set to break
ground this year at the port
bringing potentially thousands
of grey collard jobs back to the
county.
On top of the
other assets we just
mentioned, the city
opened the Kroc
Center on Harrison
Avenue fulfilling a
$90 million dream
for all the residents
of the county by
providing an ex-
traordinary place
for all individuals. And not to be
forgotten, the city was without a
full-sized grocery store this time
last year and will soon have two
new operational enterprises
owned by Shop-Rite over the next
18 months.
In addition, there has been
more than $6 million invested
into the county park system this
year improving lighting,
drainage and overhauling our
greenspaces. No community can
thrive without the necessary
open space and recreational op-
portunities for our children and
families.
As an elected leader I know
there is certainty on a couple of
key issues that we are addressing.
We know that a job almost always
stops a bullet and we are working
day and night to bring those op-
portunities back to the city. We
are also working to enhance edu-
cational opportunities within the
city itself because we know that
if the dropout rate exponentially
improves, concurrently violent
crime will be reduced.
That said, we are still at the be-
ginning of this journey and there
is a long way to go. No one is de-
claring mission accomplished by
any means, but there have been
significant signs of positive
progress. One thing should never
be forgotten, the city is the
county seat and the better Cam-
den City does the better Camden
County does.

your efforts.
Kasko read the proclamation
that asked residents to join the
commissioners as well as the
members of the Haddonfield Hu-
mans Relations Commission and
Haddonfield Board of Education
in working to end acts of student
intimidation, bullying and vio-
lence in schools.
The Board of Education has al-
ready worked within schools to
stop bullying. It has instituted an
official policy prohibiting acts of
bullying and commending all who
demonstrate appropriate behav-
ior and refuse to tolerate harass-
ment, intimidation and bullying.
It has also designated a staff
coordinator, Dortone, to prevent
this behavior and deploy the STO-
Pit app for students to report bul-
lying incidents.
Along with the STOPit app,
weve tried fostering a climate
where the kids feel comfortable to
talk to teachers or any trusted
adults, even other students if
they want to report anything. So
its not just through technology,
its through face-to-face means
also, Dortone said.
On behalf of the Board of Edu-
cation, Berlin said it is very
strongly supportive of the anti-
bullying initiative and was very
happy with the STOPit apps suc-
cess in the high school. He even
heard students from other
schools in the district asking
when they would get it. Dortone
responded by saying that if it al-
ready isnt employed in the mid-
dle school, that it will be soon.
It was terrific to hear how ro-
bust the program is. The idea of
using technology to make stu-
dents feel like they have a voice
was very, very exciting for us to
hear. Part of our job is to stay on
top of issues, and we are very in-
terested in this issue. So thank
you for the opportunity, Maugeri
said.
Dortone also reported that the
school has had interest from
other districts and news outlets
asking about the STOPit app
since Haddonfield was one of the
first schools in the area to use it.
Were spreading the word,
Dortone said.
Commissioners thanked those
there who received the proclama-
tion, giving the official copy to
Berlin. Commissioner Neal
Rochford rounded up the procla-
mation, commending those pres-
ent for their work.
Ill just add youre doing a
great job. Its an important issue
not only here in Haddonfield, but
across the nation. Unfortunately,
many of the school shootings you
read about stem from bullying sit-
uations, and I think as a society,
we need to have effective means
to deal with it. I think some of
the things youre doing are very
cutting edge, so Im happy to be
here tonight to honor you,
Rochford said.
In other news:
Commissioners renewed
their shared service arrangement
with Cherry Hill for the Victims
Services Domestic Violence Re-
sponse Team for the 2105 calendar
year.
From Friday, Nov. 28 to Thurs-
day, Dec. 25, free parking will be
offered to shoppers of downtown
Haddonfield on Kings Highway
between Grove Street and the
PATCO bridge with the excep-
tions of the hours of 7 a.m. to 9
a.m.
The next meeting has been
changed to Monday, Nov. 10 at 7:30
p.m. due to Veterans Day.

Kings Court in Haddonfield.
Ergs are stationary rowing ma-

Vespoli V1 8+ racing shell.
The Haddonfield Crew Club
has grown exponentially in re-
cent years, with 96 rowers partici-
pating on the team, including 35
who joined for the first time this
year. They are joining a team that
experienced unprecedented suc-
cess last year, taking home three
gold medals in the Garden State
Championship, gold at the
Philadelphia City Champi-
onships and sending nine boats to
nationals.
So come down to Kings Court
on Nov. 15, cheer the team on,

Lawrences vision for the socie-
ty during his year as president is
to ensure that physicians who
treat vascular disease are as well
educated as possible, and to make
sure patients with vascular dis-
ease get great care. Ill be concen-
trating on two areas: building col-

lated societies and strengthening
our annual meeting, which is the
thrust of our educational efforts
and attracts a global audience.

College and his medical degree
with honors from Harvard Med-
ical School. He completed his resi-
dency and fellowship at Colum-
