For the quintessential CLAT aspirant
The Scoop Of The Month
Justice Mudgal Report names cricketers, officials

The Editors Column

Dear Student,
Welcome to the November edition of the Law
Bulletin.

In the much-awaited hearing on Mudgal

Committee report, the Supreme Court revealed
the names of N Srinivasan, Gurunath Meiyappan,
Raj Kundra and Sundar Raman, who were being
probed by the panel.
However, the Supreme Court took the names of
some cricketers by accident and clarified that they
wanted to name officials and administrators, not
players. The court also asked Harish Salve, the
lawyer of the petitioner to be clear who is a player
and who is not.
The SC asked the BCCI, Srinivasan and other nonplayers who are named in the report to file their
objections within four days of the receipt.
The SC also directed to disclose the findings of
Justice Mudgal committee report on noncricketers and hold on to the findings related to
players. The BCCI was been forced to cancel its
AGM scheduled for November 20.
Petitioner Amit Verma had called for the report to
be made public in the interest of the sport. The
Mudgal committee submitted the final report on
November 3.
The report has been made by a panel headed by
former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana Mukul
Mudgal and also includes Sourav Ganguly.

Sarita Devi faces knockout punch: AIBA
Boxer Sarita Devi, who refused to accept her Asian
Games bronze medal in a protest over the judging can
expect a heavy punishment, the head of the sport's
governing body AIBA said. The world body has hinted
that Sarita's international career may be over.
L. Sarita Devi lost in the semifinals of the women's
lightweight competition at Incheon, South Korea, in
September, and tried to give her medal to her
opponent at the presentation ceremony as a protest.
Devi and three coaches received indefinite bans taking
in the current women's world championships in South
Korea pending a final ruling of a disciplinary
commission. AIBA president CK Wu said that the
commission will make its ruling "very soon" and
forecast a strong penalty.
"She will be heavily punished, there will be zero
tolerance. It was totally unacceptable behaviour for any
competition in any sport, I think her boxing career is
finished. Every athlete should fully respect the decisions
of referees and judges. So this boxer is facing very
severe punishment. She has damaged her own country,
India has been damaged," Wu said in a telephone
interview from Jeju, South Korea, ahead of the AIBA
congress.
"If you accept being the winner, you have to accept
being the loser. If everyone behaved like that, what
type of competition will we have?," he added.
Meanwhile, Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said
he was saddened with the news. He added that Sarita
should be given a chance to play again.
