Feasibility Update – Huge thanks to staff and community who braved the
cold weather to attend the input session put on by the Feasibility Study
group. Staff and community had the opportunity to provide feedback to
the committee as to the feasibility of having Early Childhood
programming at Bauder. The timeline for making this decision is by the
school of choice deadline in February.

Book Swap – What a great success! Thank you all for your generous
donations. Due to this wonderful response, ALL Bauder students came
away with at least one book. This original idea stemmed from our PTO as
they attempted to find a way to get more students involved with Book
Trust, a non-profit organization dedicated to getting more books into
the hands of students from poverty.

Giving Tree – Each year, Mrs. McDonald organizers a Giving Tree to

Bauder families in need. This tradition has been going on for years,
and I want to recognize our staff, Immanuel Church (Kids Hope
volunteers), and others who contribute to this event. Gifts for
students, coats, boots, and food are collected and given out to our
community. I am grateful to be a part of such a philanthropic group.

Cold Weather and Recess – We had quite a spell of cold weather

recently! This also reminds us about preparing our students for such
weather. Here is the section from our Parent Handbook:
• Students should plan to be outdoors for daily recess breaks and wear appropriate
outdoor clothing for the day. The clothing would include coats, hats, gloves, and
boots.
• If the temperature is 15 degrees or colder, factoring wind chill, students will
come into the building before 8:35 a.m. and remain in the building over recesses.
The principal or designee will make the decision and an announcement will be made
over the P.A. system.
• Teachers will use their own judgment about morning and afternoon recesses based
on the above criteria.
• There will be times when the temperature is below 15 degrees and we will have
students go outdoors for shorter periods of time. These times typically occur
when students have been indoors over a period of recesses.

Breakfast – I also want to honor our PTO for providing a most grateful
breakfast to our staff this week. Annually, our PTO sponsors a
breakfast made by parent volunteers. Each year it is a tremendous
success and we thank all of you for providing this for our staff.

Scavenger Hunt – Congratulations to the Bauder students! Not only did

they reach their 1000 Bauder Buck goal – they EXCEEDED it by earning
over 8000! To celebrate, we had a building-wide scavenger hunt on
Thursday – what fun! Students went into various classrooms to find
pieces of trivia and then had a 20 minute reading time with their
partners. Big thanks to Mr. Yates and the PBS team for organizing such
a wonderful community building event!

CONT.
The Season of Giving – I want to recognize Mrs. Franklin and her spirit
of giving. On Wednesday of this week, she brought her guitarists to
Rigden Farms to perform after school for some senior citizens who were
very appreciative of their thoughtfulness. Mrs. Franklin also organized
an outstanding Caroling and Cocoa with many Bauder families and staff
attending. This group of carolers went door to door on Monday evening
singing to our neighbors near Bauder. Caroling and guitarists, Giving
Trees, PTO Breakfasts, Scavenger Hunts, and Book Swapping – it’s been an
incredible week here at Bauder and I cannot share my appreciation more
of this staff and community for what they do to create a wonderful
environment of learning for our students.

Brand Survey Results – Thank you to all who took the time to fill out
the online brand survey for Bauder. Valuable information was gained.
Upon our return from break, we will put the results online for all to
view and I will send home a summary of the results.

Lost and Found & Prompt Pick-up Reminders – Stop by the main pod and
pick up and lost and found items prior to winter break! Also, students
need to be picked up from school promptly when the bell rings at 3:18 or
immediately following their after-school sponsored activity (homework
helpers or after school adventures).

Happy Holidays – From the Bauder staff – we wish all of our families a
wonderful holiday season. See you on Tuesday, January 5th!
