NARRATIVE REPORT ON SCOUTS AGAINST DENGUE YEAR 4
San Vicente Elementary School, Bani,Pangasinan
16 September 2013
The Philippines is a tropical country who experiences two seasons, it is the rainy and
sunny season. When rainy season arrived, different diseases were spread especially when
places experienced natural calamities such typhoons and floods. News started coming out in
the televisions, radios and newspapers with the diseases that Filipinos. Some of these dreadful
diseases encountered are leptospirosis who came from rats and the malaria and dengue form
mosquitoes.
Dengue is the most common mosquito-borne viral disease of human. This disease
doesnt select the status of its victim. Any member of the society may suffer this disease.
Boy Scouts of the Philippines called the participation of Scouting Units to share in the
massive effort in working hand-in-hand to minimize this deadly disease. The re-launching of the
program Scouts against Dengue is reiterated for its third year to the scouting units through the
regional and council offices of the BSP.
The San Vicente Elementary School supports the program and had conducted the
school-based Scouts against Dengue campaign on September 16, 2013.
The following activities were conducted.
a. Clean-up Drive the Scouts cleaned the schools surroundings. They made
sure that all trash bins were emptied and garbage was separated to
Biodegradable, Non-Biodegradable and Recyclable containers. Making
themselves good examples for their schoolmates will be a great help to make the
school grounds clean and in order. Parents also participated on this activity.
b. Emptying stagnant water Stagnant waters in flower pots, vases, bottles and
containers were emptied and changed, to make sure that eggs and wrigglers of
mosquitoes will be no longer live there. Bottles were turned upside down so that
it will not catch water that the mosquito may lay their eggs.
c. Distribution of Handouts the KID and KAB Scouts distributed a Health
Advisory handout on Dengue to the parents. They also posted it to corners and
bulletins in the school.
d. Self-Protection Measures the Boy Scouts made lectures before the pupils on
how to protect themselves against dengue.
e. OL-Trap Scouts have set OL-Traps given by DOSTin classrooms and
monitored the eggs caught by each container.
The Boy Scouting is a holistic approach through learning through doing and the
progressive system of the activities and projects. The Scouts against Dengue is a good activity
that makes them aware and does their share in helping minimize the deadly disease by cleanup drive, distribution of handouts and making lectures to their schoolmates.
