ABSTRACT
With today`s fish farmers` problems, each of them should be aware of contagious
diseases that could affect their livelihood. The farmers may have slight awareness, but the word
slight still means a lack of knowledge about something. So, the researchers aim to widen the
ideas of fish farmers about the things they have to do.
Two containers was prepared and brought to BuenaFlor Fish Farm, Brgy. San Juan,
Surigao City. Two water samples together with two soil samples were taken from different
transects of the farm. At the same time, animal samples (penaeus monodon) were also taken
using fish net and still, from two different transects of the farm. Animal samples were then
transferred to the ice bucket with a dozen of ice to preserve the samples. pH levels were
measured using pH meter. The samples were immediately brought to the laboratory of Bureau of
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) before the four hour limit expires. Then started the
bacterial count test and the analysis of the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) using the iScreen WSSV kit.
The results show that there is no significant effect of water pH level on the thriving of the
bacteria, specifically the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). Since fish farmers of today
believes that pH level affects the spread of the virus, this would be of great help to them for they
dont have to spend much money on changing the pH levels of their farms just to make their
livelihood last.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

This paper would not have been possible without the guidance and the help of
several individuals who in one way or another contributed and extended their valuable assistance
in the preparation and completion of this study entitled The Effect of the Water pH Level on
the Proliferation of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) disease on Penaeus monodon, at
Brgy. San Juan, Surigao City: An Assessment:
Firstly, to our Almighty God and Heavenly Creator who guides us in every ups and
downs of this study. For the unstoppable blessing that he had given for answering our prayers for
giving us the strength, knowledge and power to plod on despite our constitution wanting to give
up and throw in the towel, thank you so much Dear Lord.
To our beloved parents; Mr. and Mrs. Messach G. Escrupolo, Mr. and Mrs. Alex A.
Casaa and Mr. and Mrs. Victor P. Juanite who have been on our side in every challenge we
had gone through. We thank you for the unconditional love and financial support that you have
given and shown to us researchers.
Our utmost gratitude to Mr. Lloyd P. Dizon whose sincerity and encouragement we will
never forget. We will never overlook your continuous support of our research study, for his
patience, motivation, enthusiasm, and immense knowledge. His guidance helped us in all the
time of research and writing of this research study. I could not have imagined having a better
advisor and mentor for our research study;

iii

Mrs. Maria Ruth R. Edradan, co-adviser of Mr. Lloyd P. Dizon, for her patience and
steadfast encouragement to complete this study, for the insights she has shared;
To the Regional Bureau of Fisheries and Natural Resources Director Mr. Nerio G. Casil
who gave us the opportunity to conduct an experiment in the Lab without any disbursement. To
all the staff who accommodates us with our queries and assessing us as we conduct our
experiment we acknowledge you for you are the one who lead us during the experiment and one
of the reason we completed the study efficaciously.
To Mr. Andres Buenaflor the owner of the fish farm we had get the samples, thank you
very much for you are the main reason why we have succeeded our study because without the
animal, soil, water samples from your farm we could not established this schoolwork. To his
workers we owe you our greatest pleasure for you are the one who assess us in getting the said
samples.
To the Caraga COMELEC Regional director Atty. Francisco G. Pobe who had been so
gentle and hospitable during our stay in his office. We sincerely thank you sir.
To our friends and best friends like Jungreg, Rommel, Koby, Kevin, Prince, Quenee
