HOT
SUMMER
VOTING

Summer starts Sunday.

Time for drinks by the
poolside.
On tap Tuesday: Kansas Citys mayoral and
City Council elections.
A new law thats supposed to increase turnout
moved those ballots from
wintertime. Alas, April 7
primary vote totals were
abysmally low.
We can do better on
Tuesday, when the high is
supposed to hit 95 degrees. Thats perfect
voting weather, right?
Right. VOTE.

Astros, Cards point fingers

Houston GM Luhnow,
St. Louis chairman
DeWitt cite differing
reasons for data hack.
The Associated Press

HOUSTON | Houston Astros

general manager Jeff Luhnow says the notion that
poor password protection is
to blame for a computer
hack of his teams player database is absolutely false.
The FBI is investigating
whether employees of the St.
Louis Cardinals broke into
the database. Some material
was posted online a year ago,
and the Cardinals and Astros
have both said they are
cooperating with the authorities.
Luhnow headed the Cardinals scouting and player development department before he was hired by the As-

tros in December 2011. Luhnow was asked about the

theory that hackers could access Houstons system because he didnt change passwords.
Thats absolutely false,
Luhnow told Sports Illustrated. Im certainly aware of
how important passwords
are, as well as of the importance of keeping them updated. A lot of my job in baseball
is to make sure that intellectual property is protected. I
take that seriously and hold
myself and those who work
for me to a very high standard.
He also denied he used any
of the Cardinals intellectual
property or information
from the Cardinals database
to create Houstons database.
I didnt take anything, any
proprietary
information,

Luhnow told SI. Nor have

we ever received any inquiries from anybody that even
suggested that we had.
Cardinals chairman Bill
DeWitt Jr. is blaming rogue
behavior on the teams
involvement in the alleged
hacking.
DeWitt said the team was
still investigating the matter,
but a handful of individuals
in the organization were responsible.
DeWitt and general manager John Mozeliak met with
reporters at Busch Stadium a
day after an attorney hired
by the team said high-level
executives were not involved
in the scandal.
DeWitt said he had no
knowledge of the hacking
before being informed by
FBI investigators early this
year.

OUTDOORS DIGEST

Catch of the week

So how do you transport
big catfish to the bait shop to
have them weighed?
Easy, says Jarrod Powell of
Independence. You rig up a
hillbillys livewell.
Thats what Powell and his
friend Jim Owens did after
Powell caught a big flathead
catfish on a recent night on
the Missouri River.
We tied a tarp in the bed of
my pickup, then filled it with
creek water and put the fish in
there, Powell said. We were
going down the road, water
splashing and truckers would
look down and see that fish and
start blowing their air horn.
It was funny.
Once the fishermen got to
Forty Woods Bait and Tackle
near Lake Jacomo, they hoisted the flathead onto the scale
and found that it weighed 66
pounds, the biggest Powell
has ever caught.
But wait. Theres more to
the story. Powell and Owens
went back to their fishing spot
not far from downtown Kansas City the next day and
Powell caught blue catfish
weighing 55 and 52 pounds.
He also landed a 15-pound
flathead and Owens caught
several smaller catfish.
