Specifications of Programmable Logic Controller

Introduction
Burner Management System (BMS) of boiler 5 is a SIMATIC S5 PLC which is obsolete
now and hence to be replaced. The new PLC to be installed in the BMS panel which is at
the control room.

Memory
The memory shall be sufficient to run the ladder program attached herewith.
Also the memory shall be expandable if necessary.

Backup storage
Removable memory sub module (EEPROM) which is sufficient to store the
ladder program attached herewith shall be provided to back up the program.

Input/output modules
Input /output modules of existing PLC are 8 channel. Hence 8 channel
input/output modules are preferred so that existing wiring could be used . All
input /output channels shall have status indicators.

The PLC shall be modular type and expandable if necessary. Also the modules shall be
easily removable from the bases. All input/output modules shall be hot pluggable.

Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition system (SCADA)


The supplier shall provide a SCADA system and shall include following.

Personnel computer with sufficient data storage facility at least for six months.
Licensed copies of SCADA soft ware , Windows and other relevant software.
A printer.

(7) PLC programming soft ware and any additional hardware such as interface cards, cables
required to connect the PLC to the PC should be provided by the supplier.

Self diagnostic function


Self diagnostic program shall be run continuously to monitor the system hard ware and
soft ware.

(9) Space available


Space available is 700 mm X 500 mm. The space required for the new system shall
compatible with the space available.

(10)

Power supply available is 110 V, 50 Hz. The supplier shall quote a power supply unit
If a power supply other than 110V, 50 Hz is required.

(11)

Installation, programming and commissioning of the system to be done by supplier


together with CPC engineers. Therefore two CPC engineers shall be trained for
programming and maintenance of the system by the supplier.

(12) In case of a failure of an input or output channel, facility shall be there to shift that
particular input or output to a spare channel easily.

(14) Electro Magnetic Compatibility


The system shall comply with Generic Emission Standard EN 50081 part II and Generic
Immunity Standard EN 50082 part II.

System warranty for a period of 2 years from the date of commissioning shall
be provided.
Availability of spares shall be guaranteed for next ten years period.

(16) Workshop facility


The supplier shall have a fully equipped workshop in Sri Lanka to carry out trouble
shooting and repairs.
