FILTER KIT

Setup and Operating Instructions

This instruction sheet primarily covers the set up and use of
the parts supplied in the In-Line Filter and Open Face Filter
kits for use with the Pylon AB6 monitor and active cell detectors. Due to the wide variety of applications and scenarios,
not all measurement situations can be covered by this instruction sheet. The purpose of this instruction sheet is to
provide general information on the use of these kits during
the radon measurement process. The User should take the
concepts provided herein and make the appropriate changes
to apply the concepts to their particular application.
IN-LINE FILTER KIT

OPEN FACE FILTER KIT

The open face filter kit may be used in 2 ways. First, similar to
the in-line filter kit, it is used to remove particulates from the
gas sample when taking gas samples from a larger volume
such as a chamber, outdoors, etc. Second, it is used to
gather particulates on a filter which will be measured using
the Pylon Filter Detector.
COMPONENTS
The open-face filter kit consists of the following items:

The in-line filter kit is used to remove particulates from the

gas sample in a closed loop system. These particulates could
potentially contain radioactive radon progeny (daughters)
which would affect the measurement.

DESCRIPTION

SETUP - LARGE VOLUME SAMPLING

Figure 3 provides a diagram showing the setup of just the
open-face filter holder with an active cell.
Figure 4 provides a diagram showing a setup of all components that could be used in a measurement system with an
active cell.
Cut tubing to the desired lengths and install the cell mating
connectors as required.

Figure 1 provides a diagram showing the setup of just the inline filter holder with an active cell.

active cell.

OPERATION - LARGE VOLUME SAMPLING

Ensure an appropriate filter is placed in the filter holder.
Start the measurement sampling.
MAINTENANCE - LARGE VOLUME SAMPLING

Cut tubing to the desired lengths and install the cell mating
connectors as required.

Replace the filter when the dirt on it affects the flowrate.

OPERATION

SETUP - PARTICULATE GATHERING

Ensure an appropriate filter is placed in the filter holder.

Start the measurement sampling.

Figure 5 provides a diagram showing the setup the open-face

filter holder.

MAINTENANCE

Cut tubing to the desired lengths.

Replace the filter when the dirt it affects the flowrate.

Place a fresh filter in the filter holder.

Adjust the flowrate to the desired setting.

FILTER KIT
Setup and Operating Instructions
OPERATION - PARTICULATE GATHERING
Start the pump & then stop the pump at the desired time.
Remove the filter and place in the filter detector for measurement.
MAINTENANCE - PARTICULATE GATHERING
The filter should be replaced prior to every measurement.
Filters may be reused if they are allowed to sit for a minimum
of 24 hours to allow the radon daughters to decay.
CAUTION
Always handle filters with tweezers to prevent skin from coming in contact with potentially radioactive particulates.
