Monday Speech: Kindness

Before I begin my speech, I dont know if you are aware, but did you
hear about the Form 5 boy from SMK KGV who drowned in the school
swimming pool last Friday? His name was Mohd. Daniel bin Abd
Razak. Let us take a moment to sedekah Al Fatihah to him, may God
grant him forgiveness and may he be placed among the good and
the righteous. In sha Allah. Remember, we can return to God at any
time, so make your time on this earth count. When you go, how
would you want your friends to remember you? Do you want to be
remembered as someone who is honest? Generous? Kind? That
brings me to my topic for today.
Today I would like to talk about something that is lacking in todays
society I feel sad when I see todays students, even adults who
only care for themselves.
I feel sad for all the selfish people out there because they only think
of their own desires. Many people today are self-centred and self
involved that they dont care about who they hurt. So, today I want
to talk about Kindness.
Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
I would add compassionate to that, which means to be empathetic
and sensitive. We look around the world today and we see so much
unkindness. From verbal and physical assault to war and killing.
Why? Why do these things happen? Ask yourselves this Are we
monsters? Are we born bad? Why is it so difficult to be kind? Is
kindness something we have to learn? Or is it something already in
us?
Mother Theresa once said, "Spread love everywhere you go. Let no
one ever come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the
living expression of God's kindness:
kindness in your face,
kindness in your eyes,
kindness in your smile,
kindness in your warm greeting."

There are many things that we can all do to be kind. Anybody can be
kind. You can be kind, not only to your best friend, not only to your
teachers or neighbours, but also to a total stranger. All you have to
do is just smile. Thats what Mother Theresa means when she said
kindness in your face, kindness in your smile.

Say Hello, Assalamualaikum, Good morning, Thats it! Kindness

is simple. Kindness, like a smile can change someones life.

For example, if theres a student, eating alone at recess, they could

get teased, they could get bullied for having no friends, think, the
next time you see that person go and talk to them so they dont
get teased, so they dont get bullied, so they have a friend, a happy
life.

So lets go and do something Tomorrow, just maybe youll see

someone and youll smile. But why wait until tomorrow? Be kind
today, I mean, right now right this second. Look at the person next
to you and smile, say Hi.
It doesnt cost you money to be kind. You dont become poor by
smiling at others, you dont become poor from being kind. Change
your attitude. Dont just be angry all the time. Of course its natural
for teenagers to be angry, youre still trying to adapt to becoming an
adult But that does not mean you should be unkind.

Youre often confused and you dont know how to control your
emotions, but STOP! Think first before you speak, think before you
act. Sometimes, we want to talk so much that we often forget to
ask ourselves: who will benefit from what I am going to say?

Could I hurt somebody's feelings, or could I damage their selfesteem if I make this comment or observation? Ask yourself these

questions and you may save others pain through hurtful words. So,
think before you speak

I would like to end by quoting The Dalai Lama, he said,

My religion is very simple. My religion is kindness.

So, do you think we can make a difference? I do, and I know we can
make a difference together. Change for the better and let people
say, There goes that student from SMK Warisan Puteri, hes a very
kind boy or girl, In fact all the students are kind there Be proud
of how good you can be. Be proud of your good behavior. Be proud
of your good thoughts and actions.

Thank you.
