A focuss assessment was carried out for the welding of 1 inch drain valves to 2 and 3 inch
piping at different areas 10, 12, 67 of Riyadh Refinery and PID noticed that the distance
between drain valves and fixed obstruction was less than 610mm which violates the
requirements of SAES-L-310 states that branch connections, 4 inch and smaller, including
drain and vent valves and drip legs of all sizes, shall be located at a minimum horizontal
distance of 610 mm 24 inches from any fixed obstruction. The contractor shall conduct a
focuss assessment for these piping from Area H to tank R935-V15 and R935-V16 and
comply Aramco Standards.

Inspector in-charge Mr. Immanuel will conduct the focus assessment and then the result will be shared with our engineering for justification.
Please acknowledge ACD upto June 20, 2015. Thanks.
Focussed assessment was carried out and found 4 cases where the distance of drain from fixed obstruction was less than 610 mm. Stress
analysis of these four sections of piping revealed that the displacement is very less compared to the available clearance in all four cases as
per drawings. This clearance is acceptable per SAES-L-310 paragraph 12.5 exceptions b) When the results of the piping stress analysis
including the surge forces show that the branch clearance with obstruction is acceptable
Based on the stress analysis data for above mentioned four cases the available clearance vs maximum displacements are, [AREA 61] 200
mm vs 5 mm, [AREA 64] 370 mm vs 20 mm, [AREA 10] 350 mm vs 45 mm, [AREA 12] 165 mm vs 60 mm (in this case displacement is 60
mm away from the fixed support). Above values are acceptable per SAES-L-310 paragraph 12.5 exceptions b) When the results of the piping
stress analysis including the surge forces show that the branch clearance with obstruction is acceptable
