shops, the litter & pollution. We tend not to talk about the
many good things that we take for granted; the convenient
location, the fascinating nooks & crannies of our historic
townscape, the endless activity in and around the floating
harbour, the neighbourliness and the community life. Most
of us must see the benefit of these things or we wouldn’t be
living here!

To make it all perfect, let’s think about what we can do to reduce

some of the problems. Hotwells News is looking for the best ideas
for schemes to improve life in Hotwells & Cliftonwood.

Best, means not just a great idea -banning all the traffic and handing
out bicycles to every commuter at Ashton Gate is a great idea but
probably not (unforthunately) one that we are likely to achieve. We
need ideas that are practical and likely to be widely supported. We
need inspiration that will fire the imaginations of even decision-
makers in the City Council. We need simple, actionable projects that
will build people’s confidence, as well as major strategic goals that
might take years to achieve and need a great deal of consensus and
co-operation at local level. On page 3 you will find examples of
some of the issues that have been aired at Community meetings. Do
