TITLE:
LAYING OUT A HORIZONTAL CURVE
SUBMITTED TO:

SUBMITTED BY:

OBJECTIVE:
To be able to lay out a horizontal curve that has an obstruction
along the curve through curve-deflection angle.
PROCEDURE:
The survey team proceeds to the site. Sets the instrument
(Theodolite) to a point to establish the point of intersection or the Station PI.
PC
The tape men measures again 12 m from Station PI and marks the
point as Station PT
The different elements of the curve and the stationing of the PC and
PT were determined by calculations.
The tape man will measure that corresponds the calculated values for
the cord distances for the station 1 and 2.
Finding out that there is an obstruction along the curve between
2 to PT, the instrument man transfer the Theodolite to station 2.
After setting up the instrument, the instrument man sites station
PC and deflects an angle.
The tape man measures the corresponding lengths along the
line of site of the station 3, 4, and PT.
After establishing the station PT, the instrument man goes back
to the station PC to check for the deflection angles.

COMPUTATIONS:
STA PT = 10 + 024.38
'
T = 12 m
I = 664656
'
I/2 = 332328
SOLUTION
Since T = Rtan(I/2)
'
R = T/tan(I/2)
R = 18.21 m
Let L be the Length of the curve =
2 RI
360
L = 21.23
STA PC = STA PI T
= 10 + 015.15 12
= 10 + 003.15 m
STA PT = STA PC + L
= 10 + 003.15 + 21.23
= 10 + 024.38 m
