DEMERIT/MERIT SYSTEM OF THE NORTHBROOK HIGH SCHOOL

BANDOLERAS DANCE AND DRILL TEAMS
The Director and the Dance officers may assign demerits to any member according to their discretion. The
Director has the authority to adjust the amount of demerits according to the infraction and any reoccurrence
thereafter. All demerits start fresh each school year in August. Demerit records from previous years will be kept
for purposes of officer tryouts.
I.

DEMERIT SYSTEM

GENERAL
A. Failure to obey commands of director or officer
B. Showing disrespect or poor attitude
C. Profanity or profane conduct
(this includes pictures/ videos)
D. Passion marks/ hickeys
E. Failure to bring/turn in required items
F. Failure to remove ones self from demerit probation
G. Direct violation of the Miscellaneous Conduct Requirements
of the SBISD Dance Drill Team Constitution
SCHOOL
A. N in conduct (thee Ns will result in failure to letter)
B. U in conduct
C. Assignment to detention for tardies
D. Assignment to detention excluding tardies
(display of affection, dress code, improper classroom behavior)
E. 2nd detention for any offense
F. Mishandling school property including uniforms and costumes
G. Disciplinary issues in classes and in school
H. Display of affection (in or out of Bandolera attire)
I. Failure to inform director of ISS assignment
J. Failure to report any discipline infraction
K. Failure to regain eligibility at progress report time
ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION
A. Unexcused absence from practice
(will result in removal from dance routine)
B. Failure to notify Director of a absence from practice 2 days in advanced
(will be considered an unexcused absence)
C. Leaving practice or an event early without permission
D. Late for practice or performance
E. Failure to participate at practice without notification
F. Unexcused absence from performance
G. Unexcused absence from mandatory events (i.e. fundraisers)

BANDOLERA ATTIRE
(Attire includes practice wear, spirit wear, uniforms, warm-ups and costumes)
A. Wearing your attire in an unauthorized place
B. Allowing non-members to wear Bandolera attire
C. Missing any part of your attire
(1 demerit for each item missing)
D. Improper behavior in your attire
(1 for the 1st violation, 2 for the 2nd violation, etc)
E. Not maintaining a neat and clean appearance
F. Removing any part of your attire in public without permission
PERFORMANCE
A. Improper stand behavior of any kind
B. Failure to bring required items to performances
C. Talking on the sidelines
D. Moving during the National Anthem
E. Talking while performing (this includes Victory Line)
F. Eating, chewing gum or drinking in uniform without permission
G. Not riding the bus to and from a function without prior approval
OFFICER DEMERITS
A. Failure to perform duties
B. Arguing with another officer in front of the team
C. Insubordination with the director or commanding officer
D. Poor attitude/behavior
E. Abuse of authority
F. Failure to issue deserved demerits
(You will receive double the allotted demerits)
G. Any other offense not specifically stated as determined by the
Director and administration

CONSEQUENCES OF DEMERITS
A. 10th Demerit- Sit out of one performance and contact to parent
B. 12th Demerit (OFFICERS ONLY)- Terminated from office.
a. May stay on the Bandolera Dance/Drill Team as a line member

C. 15 Demerit- Probation for 3 weeks
a. During demerit probation, members must earn enough merit points to take them off probationary
status.
b. During demerit probation, members are expected to attend all practices and performances but
will not be allowed to perform.
c. Members must not have been on demerit or grade probation during the year in which they earn
their letter jacket.
d. Members are allowed to be on demerit probation twice in the fall semester and twice in the
spring. Excessive demerit probation could lead to removal from the team based on Directors
discretion.
D. 20th Demerit- Removal from the team.

The Director may also award merits for good behavior, going above and beyond and community service. The
Director must approve all merits in advance. Do not just assume merit points will be awarded.
