MATERI PEMBELAJARAN
A Visit to Bali
Kuta was almost deserted because the season was nearly over. I stepped out of my
lovely Cottage Hotel on the beach and looked towards the setting sun because this is one of
the things one must do in Kuta. Sunsets here are vivid and incredibly beautiful. As I gazed at
that great red ball slowly sinking down, I was joined by my friends Nel, a painter from
Sydney and Leo, a Dutch seaman

Then we all walked slowly back, making plans for the next day. Nel wanted to
meet someone in Ubud who could tell us a lot of Bali and its cultural development. So we
decided to take the bus to Denpasar the next morning. However, as we arrived a sudden
squall made us seek shelter in the lounge of the Bali Hotel. Then we noticed Hans, a German
student of architecture, sitting at a nearby table. hello there, we shouted. He was drenched
to the skin. From the expression on his face we could see that he was not too pleased about
the weather. He smiled. ah lucky to meet somebody I know he said.
At last, the rain stopped and the four of us hailed a passing bemo which was
bound for Ubud and we climbed aboard. Only one other person was inside. But the drivers
mate was doing his best to attract more passengers by leaning out and shouting continuously
UbudUbud.Ubud! soon the bemo was overloaded not only with people but also
basket of poultry, fruits and vegetables and bundles of tinkling rice cooking tins which were
tied on the back. Although we and the local Balinese passengers were pressed tightly
together, we all accepted the situation with plenty of smiles
