Advantages and disadvantages of co-education/ mixed education

Introduction: Co-education means the teaching of both boys and girls in the same
school and under the same roof. This system of education aims at bringing boys and girls
together. However, this system has many pros and cons as below :
Advantages:
- Co-ed schools are likely to offer you more in the way of student diversity. Having both men
and women in classes allow students of both sexes to interact with a wider range of people
and learn how to work with and talk to people of the opposite sex.
-> develop a cordial relationship and inculated in them a spirit of sportsmanship, mutual
harmony and also develop their social skills such as communication and teamwork

- A healthy competion: boys in mixed schools always try to perform better

academically to make sure the particular girl doesnt top the class the girls often want
to show that they are equally smart -> Give students more motivation to work toward
goals
- More economical: +There is no need to build separate institudes for for males and
females
+ Dont have to arrange different teachers to teach them
Disadvantages:
- Lack of concentration due to opposite sex: +There is a higher chance for
distractions to exist in the classroom -> lead to inappropriate behavior and lower
levels of successful education
+ Students who are intimidated by the opposite sex may find it difficult to participate
in class at co-ed schools
- Unwanted arguments and issues can create unhealthy environment: Genders
come from different schools of thoughts and hence contradiction of thoughts is
common among them. Additionally, it can cause compalints from parents and teachers
and makes teachers get troubled because they are ressponsible for undesirable
incidents
In conslusion, we can say that the advantages of the system of co-education
outweigh the disadvantages.
