Room 127 News from Our Beach

This Week: Weve got lots packed into this EARLY RELEASE week! In math, we
continue our study of multiplication and division with decimals (multi-digit numbers).
Students are being introduced to tape diagrams this week. They are a great visual
students can use on many problems. I think youll be impressed! During our language
arts time, we are reading a selection titled Sleds on Boston Common that is about
British Troops living in the Colonies during the times of the American Revolution.
Conferences: Please see the attached schedule to confirm our meeting time. The students
are invited to join us. Conferences really are a celebration of all of their great work and
effort. Please consider bringing your child along. If there is something youd like to
discuss privately, we can ask them to give us a minute.
Mechanical Pencils: In an effort to increase student focus and engagement, Mrs. Melby
and I have decided to ban mechanical pencils on a trial basis (the month of October).
Unfortunately, these tools distract too many students. We will see how things go and keep
you updated on this experiment. Thank you for your cooperation.
Homework: Overall, the students are doing a good job of turning in daily homework.
They are showing work on math assignments and seem to be putting more effort into this
work. Thank you for your help at home.

Esta semana: Tenemos muchos envasados esta semana de liberacin anticipada. En
matemticas, continuamos nuestro estudio de la multiplicacin y divisin con decimales
(nmeros de varios dgitos). Los estudiantes se introducen esquemas de cinta esta
semana. Son un gran estudiantes visuales pueden utilizar en muchos problemas. Creo que
estars impresionado! Durante nuestro tiempo de Artes de lenguaje, estamos leyendo una
seleccin titulada "Trineos en Boston Common" es decir sobre las tropas britnicas viven
en las colonias durante la poca de la revolucin americana.
Conferencias: por favor ver el horario adjunto para confirmar la hora de nuestra reunin.
Los estudiantes estn invitados a unirse a nosotros. Las conferencias son realmente una
celebracin de todos su gran trabajo y esfuerzo. Por favor considere traer a su hijo a lo

Lpices mecnicos: en un esfuerzo por incrementar la participacin, la Sra. Melby y
