Important Note About the Assumed Rate per Kilowatt-hour: The price per kWh shown above is based
on June 2010 Meralco electricity rates. The assumed price of electricity per kilowatt-hour is derived
statistically and uses representative rate per bill amount bracket group. These assumed data are updated on
a regular basis as deemed necessary by Meralco AppCal application administrators. This computation may
vary from the actual consumption and rates reflected in the customers Meralco monthly electric bill and
therefore, this computation should not be used in any way for billing purposes, complaints or concerns
against Meralco. This computation should not be used by the customer to estimate electric consumption of
appliances and/or equipment used for non-residential or business or commercial purposes.

FOR REFRIGERATORS & FREEZERS

Formula:
Estimated cost per hour = [Rate per kilowatt-hour x (appliance wattage/ 1000) x 14 hours ]/ 24
hours per day
Example:
For a 6 cubic feet refrigerator for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.
Cost per hour = [Rate per kilowatt-hour x (appliance wattage/ 1000) x 14 hours] / 24 hours per day
Cost per hour = [P10.50 x (100 watts /1000) x 14 hours]/ 24 hours per day
Cost per hour = [P10.50 x (.10 kilowatt) x 14 hours]/ 24 hours per day
Cost per hour = [P14.70]/ 24 hours per day
Cost per hour = P00.61
Cost per month = P00.61x number of hours used in one month
2.

FOR AIR CONDITIONING UNITS

Formula
Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.8 x 0.8) + (appliance wattage x 0.2)] / 1000)
Example:
For a 1 horsepower (944 watts) air conditioner for a household with an average monthly bill of
P2,500.00.
Cost per hour = Rate x [(appliance wattage x 0.8 x 0.8) + (appliance wattage x 0.2)] / 1000
Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(944 watts x 0.8 x 0.8) + (944 watts x 0.2)] / 1000
Cost per hour = P10.50 x [(604.16) + (188.8)] / 1000
Cost per hour = P10.50 x [792.96] / 1000
Cost per hour = P10.50 x 0.79 kilowatt
Cost per hour = P8.30
Cost per month = P8.30 x number of hours used in one month
3.

FOR ALL OTHER APPLIANCES

Formula:
Cost per hour = Rate x (appliance wattage / 1000)
Example:
For a 29-inch color TV set for a household with an average monthly bill of P2,500.00.
Cost per hour = Rate x (appliance wattage / 1000)
Cost per hour = P10.50 x (145 watts / 1000)
Cost per hour = P10.50 x (.145 kilowatt)
Cost per hour = P1.52
Cost per month = P1.52 x number of hours used in one month
