Psychometric testing
Psychometric testing is a means of evaluating
someones personality or ability. The tests are used
by many companies as part of the recruitment
process, either in addition to the traditional interview
or instead of it, at an earlier stage. They can also be
used to help an individual to make decisions about
their choice of career.
When a person is at the beginning of their career
and doesnt have much work experience, it can be
useful to have a tool such as this that will enable
organizations to recruit people with the right mix of
abilities and personal attributes. The main types of
tests are aptitude tests and personality tests. The
first of these assesses a persons ability and usually
tests their verbal and numerical skills. If a candidate
gives illogical responses, it is unlikely that they will
be suited to a job that demands reasoning or
analytical skills. However, the important thing to
remember is that there are no right or wrong
answers to these tests.
Another way of testing someones personality is
through handwriting. This is more controversial, as
graphology is not considered to be a science. Many
people agree that a person with illegible handwriting
is likely to be disorganized, and perhaps even
impatient. However, it is more difficult to see a
connection between the way they write and qualities
such as being ambitious or unreliable.
