Research on the Origin and Downfall of Martial Arts in


Hsi-luo-chit-kam Area

Abstract
The aim of this study is at exploring Ching Dynasty, Liao clan who lived in Fu-Jian
of Mainland China move to His-luo in Taiwan, and to develop so famous martial arts, and
the effect for generations. Based upon the historical researching method by returning to
the institutions original located town, His-luo, the following conclusions can be made:
There were several reasons that His-luo-chit-kam area were so famous for its martial
arts. 1.Taiwan were because of wars, fights, and many robbers. 2.In order to protect
homeland, people who lived in His-luo-chit-kam area usually practiced martial arts when
they had free time. 3.Liu Ming Shan managed martial arts business in His-luo, and
conduced the fashions of practicing martial arts. 4.Liao clan had strong conscious from the
same family.
However, in the end of Ching Dynasty, Liao clan fight with Li clan and Chong clan,
such sitution caused His-luo-chit-kams martial arts to go downhill, some later
generations contravened His-luo-chit-kams regulations, His-luo-chit-kams people
joined against Japans dominion. In order to enhance His-luo-chit-kams spirit, people
rebuilt Chen-Sing-she Temple, the burial ground of Master A-Shan , Chang-liao clans
Temple, and established His-luo-chit-kams martial arts specially area. Besides, some
ideas of drama and Bu-Dai-Si were sourced from the heroic story of His-luo-chit-kam.
