20 seniors who were suspended for releasing balloons in school will attend the upcoming school board meeting to protest their punishment. The principal had warned students against pranks. While the seniors felt the balloons were harmless, their actions disrupted school activities and caused over 150 students to be late to their next class. The suspended students and their parents want the school board to overturn the punishment, arguing it was too severe for the minor prank, but the principal believes consequences are necessary to uphold her warnings against pranks.

20 students will be attending the board meeting on Tuesday April, 14 to protest
their punishment for releasing balloons in the school. Principal Vinta Haygood announced that she did not want any of the seniors to pull a prank of any kind. I gave ample warnings to the senior class that I would not tolerate any sort of prank that disrupts school, principal Vinta Haygood said. Twenty students were suspended for the rest of the day and banned from the allnight senior party on Friday, May 1 for releasing balloons only filled up with air. The seniors checked before and found out that no one was allergic to latex. Our punishment is way too extreme, senior Ruby Kanur said. I cant believe that is what she banned us from. Alfred Refugio, one of the seniors doesnt agree with the consequence that Haygood gave them. We were being seniors, having fun and making memories, I dont regret it at all, I still think its funny, senior Alfred Refugio said. Every senior has been looking forward to the all-night party since the first day of school. The next school board meeting will be held on Tuesday April, 14th to protest their punishment that Hoggard gave them.` I think the board will listen to us, Kanur said. There are so many bad senior pranks out there. All 20 seniors will be there at the board meeting including all of their parents to try and help the situation. Let the punishment fit the crime, mother Milly Kanur said. They were balloons. Balloons. They could have put shaving cream in them or glitter. But they didnt. When my daughter told me what they were doing, I thought it was a cool idea. These kids have worked hard for 12 years. They deserve a little fun. There was 150 tardies to second period on the day of the prank. Students who have more than three tardies in a semester have to serve a 30 minute after school detention. Almost half of my class was late, math teacher Grace Killen said. It took me more than 15 minutes to get my freshman calmed down. All of the students and parents are irritated about Haygoods decision. I am sorry the students and parents are upset but actions have consequences, Haygood said.
