Twenty seniors now find themselves in a big debate on Tuesday.

After releasing 1,000 balloons

into the school hallway as a senior prank on April 3, the students and their parents will protest

the principal's decision at the next board meeting.

“I gave ample warnings to the senior class that I would not tolerate any sort of prank that

disrupts school,” principal Vinita Haygood said.

The 1,000 balloons caused trouble for another group.

“The janitors spent more than two hours picking up the balloon pieces throughout the

school”, Haygood said..

The 20 seniors also had something to complain about.

“The principal punishment is too severe,” senior Alfred Refugio said. “The prank was

funny, it wasn’t mean and it didn’t hurt anyone.”

Refugio said they bought the balloons from the dollar store the night before.

“We blew them up the night before,” Refugio said. “We knew no one had a latex allergy.

We checked it out first.”

Other seniors had different views and opinions on Haygood’s decision to not let them

attend the end of year party for seniors.

“Our punishment is too extreme,” senior Ruby Kannur said. “We didn’t vandalize or hurt

anyone, it wasn’t a big deal, but principal Haywood is turning it into one.”

Parents and the students argued that it wasn’t fair to punish the students for a

non-violent senior prank. This party that the school does for the seniors means a lot to them and

taking it away is not the best of ideas.

“They were balloons, they could have put shaving cream in them or glitter,” Milly Kanur.

The parents obviously are not pleased with how Haygood is taking the prank.

“When my daughter told me what they were doing, I thought it was a cool idea,” anur

said. “These kids have worked hard for 12 years, They deserve a little fun”.
Different views and protests at the school board meeting have been voiced, but Haygood

stayed strong and wouldn’t let up.
