1. DESIGN DRAWINGS
Design drawings shall be positioned on the standard WFP title blocks. Design drawings shall
be prepared utilising the Autodesk AutoCAD design program and be saved in AutoCAD.DWG
format as an AutoCAD 2007/LT2007 drawing.
1.1
DRAWING REFERENCES
The general numbering schemes to be utilised on all drawings shall be in accordance with
the following requirements. Each drawing reference in a package should be unique and as a
base requirement shall contain four elements:
1.1.1
Project Number
The project number is a unique code attributed to a project at its inception by WFP. Where
appointed, the design consultant shall be informed of the specific project code to be used on
the project and shall be the reference number to be used through the project duration
(Example WFPJOB0001).
1.1.2
Element Title
A project may contain more than one element of works (i.e. a warehouse and an office) that
may be constructed at different stages but that may contain similar drawings with the same
general titles. To reduce the risk of duplicate drawing numbers, each drawing reference shall
contain an additional two digit reference to the element of works to which it refers (WH
Warehouse, CPCheck Point, OFOffice, GHGuardhouse).
Drawing Number
Drawings must be numbered using an alphanumeric system. The first digit is a letter that
represents the discipline associated with that drawing sheet. The sheets within each
discipline are then numbered consecutively and shall be arranged in the following order:
Sheets T001 to
Sheets D001
Sheets C001
Sheets A001 to
Sheets S001 to
Sheets M001

Should a drawing contain more than one sheet under the same drawing number, insert an
additional reference to sub-divide and differentiate between the relevant drawings.
In this instance the drawings reference would read similar to the following

1.1.4
Drawing Revision
Each drawing issued officially, whether by a Consultant to the Employer or from WFP to a
Contractor shall contain a revision number appropriate to the stage of the scheme for which
the project is at. The issuer shall ensure that the drawing revision is updated each time there
is an alteration to a drawing. If utilised correctly, this shall facilitate the clear identification of
the current revision of project drawings and the remove the possibility of uncertainty that may
otherwise occur. The Employer may, at its discretion, choose to waive the requirement to
update all revisions of drawings for a new stage of the project where there have been no
alterations to the drawing brought forward from the previous stage. The requirements for
drawings revisions are as follows

The issuer shall ensure that on all revisions to drawings submitted throughout the execution
of the project, all alterations to the drawings are highlighted by means of revision clouds
contained on the drawings supplemented by details of the alteration that has occurred. In
the early stages of the design of the project and where major alterations to the design may
be common, the use of revision clouds may not be practical and may be omitted.
Notwithstanding this, a detailed description of alterations shall always accompany revisions
to drawings.
1.1.5
Summary
The final drawing reference to be used on a project shall contain a combination of the
references outlined. The issuer shall be responsible for ensuring that there is no duplication

DRAWING SIZES
Hard copies of drawings shall only be on the following sheet sizes unless specifically agreed
otherwise. The sheet sizes are as detailed in ISO 216: 2007.
ISO A4
mm 210 x 297:
ISO A3
mm 420 x 297:
ISO A1
mm 841 x 594:
1.3
DRAWING UNITS
Drawings and designs in general shall be completed and dimensioned in metric units (unless
specifically required otherwise). The drawings units (i.e. m, cm, and mm) for use on the
project shall be recorded in the project plan at the beginning of the project.
1.4
All drawings issued must be annotated with the author, checker and approver of the
drawings together with relevant signatures (electronic or print). Where a designer is
appointed, their drawings must contain the company seal and signatures and shall be
deemed to be the contractual copy of the relevant drawings at each project phase.
Drawings shall be drawn full size within the drawing model space with scaling of the
drawing to the required format on the drawing layout. The drawings legend shall contain
details of the units to which the drawing is dimensioned. The issuer shall ensure
consistency of dimensioning through all drawings prepared as part of the project.
Each drawing shall contain a detailed legend, a scale bar and a north sign and where
required, a key plan of the relevant project site.
All drawings shall be prepared at standard scales (e.g. 1:100, 1:200, 1:50) unless
agreed otherwise. Should layouts contain a number of drawings of differing scales, the
title block shall state as shown and the relevant scales shall be contained beneath the
different drawings contained on the drawing sheet.

Drawing Control
Drawings shall contain all information required to complete the works and /or refer to
other sources of information if required. All information shall be clear and unambiguous
and shall be consistent with all other drawings for the same location.
Drawing text type shall be the Arial type as contained within the AutoCAD text library;
this shall also be the requirement for dimensional text. The issuer shall ensure that all
information contained on each drawing is legible at A3 size, the minimum text height on
printed copies of drawings shall be 2.5mm for general text and 5.0mm for headline text
on the printed paper.
Dimensional references shall utilise closed filled arrows and shall be sized such that they
are legible at A3 size. Architectural ticks are not permitted.
The provision of coloured drawings (WFP title block excluded) shall only be permitted
upon specific approval. (see 1.4.1) The issuer shall endeavour to distinguish between
similar elements on drawings through the use of varying line types, line thicknesses and
notation.
All drawing sections shall be clearly annotated on plan drawings including the section ref
(e.g. A-A) and the direction of the section.
The use of hatching on drawings shall only be permitted where there is a requirement to
differentiate between different elements located closely together (e.g. road pavement
layers in section). The use of hatching for aesthetic purposes on drawings shall be
avoided.
Notwithstanding that contained above, in relation to the use of text, dimensions, line
types, hatching etc. It shall be ensured that the output at A3 drawing size shall be
readable and understandable.
1.4.1
Drawings to be submitted as part of the project shall be identified and confirmed at the
commencement of each phase. The level of detail will differ depending on the phase and
requirements. Drawings prepared during phases 0 to 3 (prior to detailed design) should be
suitable to graphically demonstrate the general requirements and overall conceptual or
preliminary detail. Detailed design or contract drawings shall be sufficiently detailed to allow
for the accurate assessment of the construction needs and should complement the
requirements of the specification. Where drawings are to be used as part of any public
presentation or where they are to be submitted as part of any phase 2 (Permits and
Authorisations) requirements, these may be developed for printing in colour. Otherwise,
drawings should be prepared suitable for printing in black and white.
1.5
SUBMISSION OF DRAWINGS
All drawings shall be issued to the Employer in Hard Copy paper format, Adobe PDF format
and AutoCAD DWG format. The signed paper and PDF copies shall be the contractual copy
of the drawings, AutoCAD versions will be information only copies.

Drawing Control
For all drawings submitted in AutoCAD format, the issuer shall ensure that the drawings are
laid out such that each sheet/drawing within a DWG file is contained on a separate layout
tab with printing preferences set as far as is practicable. Each drawing file shall be batched
using the AutoCAD e-transmit function and the issuer shall ensure that all files (x-refs,
images, ctb files etc.) are contained within the e-transmit.
Any attachments on the drawing which are not to be transmitted to the Employer shall be
removed from the drawing prior to completion of the e-transmit function.
