Special Notes
1) Darkwalker of Moonshae was the FIRST Forgotten Realms novel published.
2) The Crystal Shard was the SECOND Forgotten Realms novel published. Although in the timeline the Dark Elf trilogy takes
place before it, the Icewind Dale trilogy was written first. The Dark Elf trilogy is a backstory for the Icewind Dale trilogy. I
highly recommend reading the Icewind Dale trilogy first. By reading it first youll also get feel for what you can expect from
the rest of the Drizzt novels. The Dark Elf trilogy has very little in common storywise with the rest of the Drizzt books. Its
important to note that the new Legends of Drizzt reprintings are numbered and are in timeline order, NOT in publishing
order, so dont get confused.
3) Understand that characters like Elminster were originally designed as characters to help DM along, to give Realms products
more flavor. TSR wanted novels based on him much later and when the novels became popular he was brought to print as
a major character in Faerun, go easy on him, hes got big boots to fill.
4) The Seven Sisters major introduced was part of the Setting. There are tidbits of history about them throughout the novels
however theres only 1 centeralized story about them, Silverfall, which doesnt deal with to much backstory. If you wish
additional information about them check out the AD&D Accessory The Seven Sisters.
5) Ignore the Heroes of Phlan, Children of Bhaal, and the Double Diamond Triangle Saga books. Theyre ignored by the
authors and in the case of Heroes of Phlan and Children of Bhaal, are simply tie-in products to computer games.
6) Evermeet was written and printed when the game accessories Elves of Evermeet and The Complete Book of Elves were the
only sources of information available for Forgotten Realms elves. Cormanthyr: Empire of Elves portrays a different history of
the elves that is inconsistent to what came before. The two can be blended together if you take the original literal meanings
of things left undetailed and ignore where Cormanthyr Empire of the Elves embellished to make it fit according to the
timeline it was trying to represent.
7) The Hunters Blades trilogy takes place immediately after Sea of Swords. This means that the Drizzt novels take place
BEFORE the 3E timeline, 1371. Do not confuse the events of the trilogy with whats going on in the Silver Marches
supplement.
8) The best way to get information on the Forgotten Realms is of course getting the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.
