Senior Project Application

In essence, my senior project involves organizing and hosting Santa Susana High
Schools first Model United Nations conference. As a deeply involved member of the MUN club,
currently holding the position of Vice President, I found it apt that I expand the scale of the club
beyond my comfort zone, and to a level unprecedented for Santa Susana. The ultimate
objective of the project is to progress the development of a club that I feel encapsulates some of
the brightest aspects of my scholastic interests and growth at the school, to the point where it
can be dignified on the same echelon as the prestigious Mock Trial team that I also have taken
part in. To achieve this end, I will commit myself to managing all aspects in respect to bringing a
school hosted Model United Nations conference to fruition. Included among said aspects are
advertisement of the event through the creation of flyers, posters, and any other form of
schoolwide promotion available to me, as well as preparation of a website that suitably
promotes and provides information for the event. To attract and eventually invite other middle
and high schools to this new conference, I will network and maintain correspondence with as
many local schools as I can via email and actual mail. Scheduling will also be a key component
in my project, as I will ensure that an exact date for the conference is made months prior,
prepare a comprehensive timetable for my deadlines and the deadlines that other involved
schools will have to meet in order to participate. To fund the expenses of the conference,
including catering, awards, and other miscellaneous commodities, I will organize a fundraising
effort over the coming months through restaurants or local business promotion. The budget and
all monetary transactions will be documented alongside record of communication with
businesses, schools, faculty, and MUN club members. In addition, I will oversee the recruitment
of volunteers for the event, including council chairpersons to judge the conference, as well as
assorted faculty members to supervise the event. In relation to the conference itself, I shall
utilize research gathered from internet sources and scholastic journals to personally better (and

amend where needed) the educational experience and value of a Model United Nations
conference, either through slight alteration of conference procedure or criteria for which the
judges can scrutinize the participants differently This will culminate in a well documented
procedure through the creation of a small scale Model United Nations conference at Susana
High School that hopefully can help spread awareness of the value of the program, as well as
the educational merit it has held for me through high school and potentially for others.
