November 7-11

Math

Reading/Writing

Next week, students will continue Module 3 of our math


curriculum. The concentration of this module is Multi-digit
multiplication and division, this week we will be studying
division using the standard algorithm. Homework will be
given nightly for practice.

This week, students will begin unit 4 of our Core


Knowledge Language Arts Curriculum: Islamic Medieval
Empires. During this unit, students will learn about
scientific advances and social structures of the Middle East
during the Middle Ages (see parent letter for more
information).

On Wednesdays, students take a Principals Challenge test,


which consists of 100 mixed multiplication problems in
five minutes. Students who pass the challenge with 90%
accuracy or higher will be featured on our Multiplication
Monsters board!

In writing, students will work on stating their opinions in a


multiple paragraphs, and supporting their opinions with
quotes from a text.

School and Classroom News


Benchmark Testing Week: November 7th-16th. Be at school and on time, please!
GATE Testing: GATE testing will be on Thursday morning, November 10th
Spell-A-Thon: Happening now! Donation envelopes will be collected on November 10th
Veterans Day, No School: November 11th. Check out Family Day at the Botanical Gardens!
Book Fair: November 14-18 (will be open during Family Fun Night on the 18th)
Family Fun Night Spaghetti Dinner: November 18th 6-7:30pm
Science Fair Ideas Due: November 18th (packets will go home next week)
Pajama Day: November 30th

Science/Social Studies
Our science kit this month is The Changing Earth.
Students will conduct weekly investigations about the
history of the earth, and how it works. They will learn
about erosion, weathering, and plate tectonics!
During our literacy block, students will read about the
geography of the Middle East, and learn about major
landmarks and countries there!

Weekly Homework:
Math Lessons 25-27 homework
20 Minutes of Reading and CKLA take home material
*we know that math homework can be daunting (especially
to parents!) and have found a helpful newsletter that details
the vocabulary and concepts for each topic in Eureka Math.
These letters will come home every time we start a new topic
*we recommend 10 minutes of math fact practice per day

Happening in the Community


Market on the Move: 60lbs of fresh veggies for $10! Wednesdays 8am-1 and Saturdays
6am-9am at the 3000 Club of Tucson
Tucsons All Souls Procession: Sunday, November 6th, 4-10pm
Pima Air and Space Museum: Kids classes offered on the 2nd Saturday of the Month - for ages
8 and up, 1:00pm
Election Day: November 8th, dont forget to vote!
Family Day at Tucson Botanical Gardens: Kids day to explore the gardens and learn about Frida
Kahlo, November 11th 9-12 ($7.50 for kids, $13 adults)
