Definition of Hardware
Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the
data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to acoomplish
tasks.
CPU- which performs most of the calculations which enable a computer to function, and is sometimes
referred to as the brain of the computer.
Computer Parts
Power Supply - The power supply comes with the case, but this component is mentioned
separately since there are various types of power supplies. The one you should get depends on the
requirements of your system. This will be discussed in more detail later
Motherboard - This is where the core components of your computer reside which are listed below.
Also the support cards for video, sound, networking and more are mounted into this board.
Monitor - This device which operates like a TV set lets the user see how the computer is
responding to their commands.
Keyboard - This is where the user enters text commands into the computer.
Mouse - A point and click interface for entering commands which works well in graphical
environments.

Differentiate of Intel to AMB

Intel processors provide high end performance suitable for gaming, encoding and similar heavy
computing. While their lower energy consumption than AMD processors, they tend to have higher prices,
making AMD processors a better choice for the budget conscious.
2 Types of Memory
1. Primary Memory / Volatile Memory:
Primary Memory also called as volatile memory because the memory cant store the data permanently.
Primary memory select any part of memory when user want to save the data in memory but that may not
be store permanently on that location. It also has another name i.e. RAM.

2. Secondary Memory / Non Volatile Memory:

Secondary memory is external and permanent memory that is useful to store the external storage media
such as floppy disk, magnetic disks, magnetic tapes and etc cache devices. Secondary memory deals with
following types of components.
Examples of Operating Systems

DOS - Disk Operating System - one of the first operating systems for the personal computer. When
you turned the computer on all you saw was the command prompt which looked like c:\ >. You had
to type all commands at the command prompt which might look like c:\>wp\wp.exe. This is called
acommand-line interface.
It was not very "user friendly"

Windows - The Windows operating system, a product of Microsoft, is a GUI(graphical user

interface) operating system. This type of "user friendly" operating system is said to
have WIMP features:

MacOS - Macintosh, a product of Apple, has its own operating system with a GUI and WIMP
features.

Examples of Application Programs

1. word processors;
2. database programs;
3. Web browsers;
4. development tools;
5. drawing,
6. paint,
7. image editing programs;
