PRE-READING STRATEGIES
The pre-reading strategies are exploratory activities carried out by the
reader reading the text, with the aim of making a functional reading it.
Reading is an important skill that helps to know information on A theme
in the writings of understanding. When reading a text or a piece of
written information, readers often use some strategies to understand
better. However, during readingand strategies they are sometimes
ineffective because the reader has not implemented some mechanisms

Sample some pre-reading activities that can be performed in the
classroom:
1. Brainstorming on the topic to read.
2. Review of the titles and subtitles of reading.
3. Interpretation of drawings and photographs included in the text or
outside it.
4. Interpretation of phrases, proverbs or adages alluding to the subject.
5. Interpretation of drawings and newspaper clippings related to the
subject.
6. Review of experiences, from reading the title.
Sppose we are working with the Unit I of Geography; Workbook 8th.
grade. This reading is about geography and its importance. Before you
start reading, do the following pre-reading exercise.
Exercise:

1. any newspaper, trimmed articles and drawings covering topics of

Geography.
2. Explain why the issues addressed in those cuts are studied by
geography?
3. Then classify them according to common aspects of that deal:
climate, rivers, population, pollution, etc.
4. Explain What do you mean by Geography?
These strategies help the reader to approach the subject and make
assumptions before you start reading.

experiences and cultural conditioning, which holds the reader and
emerging in the pre-readin

Las estrategias de pre-lectura son actividades exploratorias que lleva a
cabo el lector de la lectura del texto, con el objetivo de realizar una
lectura funcional del mismo.
La lectura es una habilidad importante que ayuda a conocer informacin
sobreun tema en los escritos de comprensin. Al leer un texto o una hoja
de informacin escrita, los lectores suelen utilizar algunas estrategias
que les permitan entender mejor. Sin embargo, durante lalectura de las
estrategias son a veces ineficaces debido a que el lector no ha puesto
en marcha algunos mecanismos antes de comenzar. La lectura es una
habilidad importante que ayuda a conocer informacin sobreun tema en

el aula:
1. Lluvia de ideas en torno al tema a leer.
2. Comentario de los ttulos y subttulos de la lectura.
3. Interpretacin de los dibujos y fotografas incluidos en el texto o fuera
de l.
4. Interpretacin de frases, refranes o adagios alusivos al tema.
5. Interpretacin de dibujos o recortes de peridicos relacionados con el
tema.

6. Comentario de experiencias propias, a partir del ttulo de la lectura.

Supongamos que estamos trabajando con la Unidad I de Geografia; del
libro de trabajo de 8vo. grado. Esta lectura trata sobre la geografa y su
importancia. Antes de iniciar la lectura, hagamos el siguiente ejercicio
de pre-lectura.
Ejercicio:
1. De un peridico cualquiera, recorta los artculos y dibujos que tratan
temas de Geografa.
2. Explica Por qu los temas abordados en esos recortes son estudiados
por la Geografa?
3. Luego clasifcalos, de acuerdo a aspectos comunes de que traten:
clima, ros, poblacin, contaminacin, etc.
4. Explica Qu entienden por Geografa?
Estas estrategias ayudan al lector a aproximarse al tema y a hacer
supuestos antes de iniciar la lectura.
Estas actividades de pre-lectura se nutren de los conocimientos,
experiencias previas y condicionamientos culturales, que posee el lector
y que emergen en la pre-lectura.
