Subject: For Doug Swanson:
Dr. Swanson,
This is the time of year where air conditioners are turned off and the furnaces are blasted to avoid
that cold nip in the air. After months of disuse and no maintenance to speak of furnaces quickly
become the most dangerous thing in the house. Those who do not know much about this heating
system could cause a house fire and or an explosion to take place.
That is why I have invited Gabriel Martinez, Assistant Chief of the Corpus Christi (Texas) Fire
Department to Green Bay to give a 90 minute presentation on furnace safety to local residents.
Focusing most on the elderly who are most susceptible to house fires caused by furnaces. Martinez
has 25 years of experience as a firefighter and a paramedic and 15 years of experience with
Consumer Reports magazine as a product safety tester. He is highly qualified and nationally
recognized as an expert on all types of heating systems.
We also wish for the public to know that during the presentation there will be Green Bay Fire
Department personnel on hand and that if they wish they can register to have their furnace
inspected by the GBFD, if they are a Green Bay resident. Not only do we have this great opportunity
for people to come and learn more about their home, but that the Green Bay Fire Department
Community Services will take requests by phone and will respond to all requests for safety
inspections within 24 hours.
We are offering this idea exclusively to you, so I will need to know if you are interested fairly soon if
you are. The presentation will be held at Best Western Green Bay Inn Converence Center, 780
Armed Forces Dr, Green Bay, WI 54304, at 7-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016. The event will
include free refreshments and all residents in the Green Bay Area are welcome to attend, all they
need to do is register free of charge at 1-(206) 426-5542. Get all your furnace questions answered
by an expert!
I will call this Wednesday, Sept. 21, to see if you might be able to help spread the news on this story
and if you are willing to come down and write an article about the presentation itself. Thank you for
your time and consideration.
