Alright, so the next slide shows graph of ownership structure of Volkswagen
group. As you can see graph is divided into four major groups. 12 % of shares are
owned by so called others, which is tedious list of little investors. What is more
exciting is the green part of Graph which stands for 17 % of shares, which is
owned by Qatar Holdings, big overseas player. Also you may noticed that 20 % of
shares are owned by Lower Saxony or in German Niedersachsen, which is one of
the Germanys federal state. Well since weve already mentioned it, is anybody
able to tell me where the headquarters of VW group is? Wolfsburg yes, and little
coincidence this city lies in Lower Saxony. VW group is major employer in this
state and whole economy of Lower Saxony is highly intertwined with VW group.
The last and the largest part of shares belongs to Porsche. Now you might be
little bewildered because Porsche is one of the subsidiaries of VW group but owns
decisive part of VW group shares. How that happen is interesting history. You see
Porsche decided to buy VW group but in order to that they have to borrow
enormous sum of money and theyve got themselves so deep into the debts that
they almost bankrupt and in the end they were bought by VW group. The result
of this scheme is that Porsche has decisive part of shares in VW group but VW
group has decisive part of shares in Porsche.

NOx is a generic term for the mono-nitrogen oxides NO (nitric oxide) and NO2
(nitrogen dioxide). They are proven to be harmful substances. Among other
things they are carcinogenic and they can cause asthma and other serious lung
diseases. Together with sulfur dioxide they create acid rains. They can cause
global cooling. Not only are they harmful for humans and animals but also for
plants.

Volkswagen as the biggest player in Automotive industry and the seventh biggest
company, judged by revenues, in the world is important employer in EU
countries. But facing Dieselgate crisis and immense sanctions, there is great
possibility of massive lay-offs, which would undoubtedly have significant negative
impact on the whole EU region. As was mentioned before there is even risk of
bankruptcy, which would possibly lead to merge or acquisition of VW group by
some overseas company, most likely some Chinese or American. This acquisition
might mean relocation of production to others non-EU regions, which would again
meant massive layoffs. This would affect also Czech Republic, because as you
probably know, koda is also part of VW group and it employ about 143 000
thousand of employees in CZ.
Mathematicians working for Greenpeace calculated, that ignoring emission
regulations by VW group leads to 1 700 premature deaths per annum.
You might think that VW are the bad guys but experts agree that it is very
probable that they are not the only ones who cheats. Theyve just been caught
first. Actually it is reckoned that every other automotive companies producing
diesel engines are somehow cheating emissions test too. Other companies should
therefore tremble, for there are most likely to be probed in the near future.
