- 30 Paper cups

- Red construction paper pieces

- Black construction dots

- Green pipe cleaners

Objectives: .
- The children will (P5.3) improve in their fine motor skills,
particularly their pincer grasps as they pick up materials
and glue onto their work while also being able to use
both hands as they work.

- The children will (S3.9) improve in their creative skills as

they learn to use specialized sources in different ways to
extend their learning.

- The children will (S1.6) demonstrate positive interactions

as they respect each others work and ideas.

Anticipatory set:
- I will begin by talking about todays weather. This will
have the children engaged and involved right from the
beginning. Then, I will tell them about how we will be
creating our own rainbows today. I will ask them to share
their individual stories to the class about rainbows. I will
ask the following questions to spark the childrens
thinking:
- How is a rainbow formed
- When does a rainbow usually appear, when do you see
it?
- What colours have you found in a rainbow?

Teaching:
Instructional input: Instructional Input:
I will get the children ready for the activity by ready a book
about rainbows. As I read the book I will ask them questions
relating to the book itself.
Guided Practice:

Guided Practice:
I will separate the children into groups of three or four. I will
give each child directions, one at a time. As the child
performs the activity, the other children will observe and grab
an understanding on how to go on about the activity.
1. In the pan filled with water and clear nail polish, have
Modeling: the children place the black construction paper flat on
the water.
2. Let it lay flat for about five seconds and then take it out
and have it dry.
3. The children can re-dip the construction paper if its not
full coated with nail polish or the rainbow is not so
evident.
Check for Understanding:
Modeling:
I will model the activity to the children by taking the
construction paper and laying it flat on the water. I will do this
without pushing it down, as this is the most important step to
Questioning Strategies: get a visible rainbow to appear on the black construction
paper. I will model how to pick the paper up from the water
without getting it wet. When I am modeling I will be giving
directions as well so that the children can visually see and
hear to follow the exact steps.

Check for Understanding:

Since, we did have a gloomy week the last time I was there; I
will ask the children if any of them had seen a rainbow after
that week. I will ask them where and when to develop a clear
understanding for myself and the other children.

Questioning Strategies:
I will ask them what other nature-related thing do we usually
see or hear after a rainy day (ex. Lightning or thunderstorms).
Closure:
- I will close the lesson by having the children frame their
rainbows. They can decorate the frames with materials
provided to them and then framework their rainbows.

- Ill ask for the children to write their names on the frames
as well.

- While they work on decorating their frames we will

continue talking and retelling sties from our past
experience and what weve learned today.

Independent Practice:
The children will be given a blank sheet of paper.
The children will be provided with crayons, pencil crayons and
colour crayons to create their own rainbow.
If they do not complete their drawing of their rainbows in the
time allotted, they can take it home to work on.
