The Universal Immunization Programme launched by the Indian government in 1985 provides vaccinations for 10 diseases. In February 2017, the programme introduced the Measles-Rubella vaccine and India's first indigenous Rotavirus vaccine to combat diarrhoeal deaths. The Rotavirus vaccine was added to three other new vaccines in the programme, including inactivated polio vaccine, measles-rubella vaccine, and the adult Japanese encephalitis vaccine. The programme now vaccinates for diseases such as tuberculosis, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, hepatitis B, diarrhoea, and Japanese encephalitis.

From February 2017, Union ministry of health and family welfare will introduces Measles() -Rubella (MR) Vaccine from UIP.
