World Down Syndrome Day: March 21!

Tuesday, 21st March 2017 marks the 12th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day. Each year
the voice of people with Down syndrome, and those who live and work with them, grows louder.
We want to get people talking about World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st! We can do this if
we all wear LOTS OF SOCKS.
These types of events help raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have
Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communi-
ties
BUT NOT JUST ANY SOCKSwear brightly coloured socks, long socks, printed socks, mismatched
socks! If you do not normally wear socks, then wear them! More importantly..ROCK YOUR
SOCKS! If people ask you about ROCK YOUR SOCKS DAY you can tell them all about World Down
Syndrome Day.
On March 21, ROCK YOUR SOCKS and invite all your friends, family to do the same.

Dress for the Weather!

Its that time of year, when the weather can change drastically from
day to day. If at all possible, we plan to spend time outdoors every-
day! Please come prepared by wearing a hat, mitts or gloves and
snow-pants daily. Soon it will be time for splash pants and rubber
boots. A change of clothing and extra mitts are a great idea!

REMINDER: YARD SUPERVISION BEGINS AT 9:00 AM.

PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CHILDREN UNTIL 9:00 AM.
Tuesday, March 28

Arklans grade 4, 5 and 6 students will learn about spring water

awareness, through demonstration and discussion, as presented
by a member of the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority.
The message of the program is one of care and caution.

We are very fortunate at Arklan School that every

day, each classroom gets a snack bin containing a
variety of fruits, and other healthy snacks like
cheese, yogurt, carrots & hummus.
This would not be possible without our partnership
with the Food for Thought program.
We welcome the support of Arklan families, so that we may continue to
provide for our students and maintain our partnership with Food for
Thought.
Heres a great incentive to support Arklans nutrition program! Food for
Thought has published a great cookbook with over 400 home-style reci-
pes. The book was originally sold for $15.00 per copy. At this time, we
are offering a copy of the book to anyone who
makes a $10.00 donation to Arklan Schools nu-
trition program. Every cent of the $10.00 stays
with the school so that we can continue to pro-
vide healthy snacks to our students each day.
A very special thank you goes to our parent vol-
unteer, Mrs. Sue Godfrey, for the many hours
that she spends coordinating and managing our
schools Food for Thought program.
Wed also like to thank Arklan Educational As-
sistant, Mrs. Kim Ryan, and her team of student
helpers for filling and delivering snack bins eve-
ry single school day.
