The Mexican Revolution Like Water For Chocolate
Porfirio Diaz Mama Elena
In my opinion, Mama Elena and Porfirio Diaz have quite similar characteristics and personalities. Mama Elena takes complete control of her family, just like how Diaz controls the politics of Mexico. Another similarity between the two is that they both are actually very crafty when it comes to what they really want to accomplish. Mama Elena was able to protect the farm and house from the Revolutionary Army by hiding the animals and showing them her rights, while Diaz used corruption to win the election.
Francisco Madero Tita
Tita and Francisco Madero are very similar in the sense that both of them created voices of dissatisfaction against the authority. Tita was against the iron orders of Mama Elena, and Madero was against the military corruption conducted by Porfirio Diaz. The results of them creating voices of dissatisfaction are also both unrewarding, since Tita would always end up being forced to obey Mama Elenas orders, and Madero was put in jail and during the political campaign.
Villa Pancho Captain of the Revolutionary Army
Villa Pancho, who was one of the leaders of the rebellion forces, can be compared with the Captain of the Revolutionary Army in Like Water for Chocolate. Villa recruited his troops from the villages and cattle spreads in Northern Mexico, which is similar to how the Revolutionary Army came to the farms for help in supplying them with food. The personality of these Villa and the captain of the army is also quite similar, since they both respect the rights of lower and middle class people. Villa only stole from the rich to help out the poor, and the captain of the Revolutionary Army respected Mama Elena and did not proceed to take away everything from the house.
