Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the Constructional


Seven E's strategy in developing the life skills in Palestinian Science
Textbook for the fifth graders. To achieve this aim, the researcher made the
following questions:
1. What are the appropriate life skills for the fifth graders?
2. What is the role of the Constructional Seven Es strategy in
developing the life skills?
3. What is the effectiveness of the Constructional Seven Es strategy
in developing decision-making skill in Palestinian Science
Textbook for the fifth graders?
4. What is the effectiveness of the Constructional Seven Es strategy
in developing the environmental performance skills in Palestinian
Science Textbook for the fifth graders?
5. What is the effectiveness of the Constructional Seven Es strategy
in developing the communication skills in Palestinian Science
Textbook for the fifth graders?
6. Is there a correlation at ( 0.05) in the post measurement
between the marks of the experimental group graders on decision-
making skill measurement, observation cards of the environmental
performance skills and the communication skills test?
The experimental approach which based on a control group with a pre and
post test was used. To achieve the aim, the researcher prepared Science
Guide Book, Student's Work Sheet Book, a list of the life skills and a
measurement battery for the life skills; decision-making skill
measurement, observation cards of the environmental performance skills
and the communication skills test. All the previous instruments were
refereed by a group of the referees. To examine the validity of the battery

the researcher applied a lesson from the Science Guide Book and the life
skills battery on a survey sample consisted of (37) male students using the
internal consistency validity, discrimination coefficient. Its reliability was
examined using Split- Half technique and Alpha Cronbach technique. The
researcher used Person's Correlation Coefficient to investigate the
observation cards reliability. In addition, Cooper equation was used to
investigate the reliability of the ratio a agreement between the observers.
Then, the researcher applied the instruments on the experimental group.
The study sample consisted of (81) male students were randomly
selected from Ahmed Abed Al-Aziz Elementary Boys School in Khan-
Youns in the first term of the school year (2011-2012). The Constructional
Seven Es strategy was used in teaching the experimental group which
consisted of (40) students, while the Ordinary method was used with the
control group which consisted of (41) students.
The data of the study were analyzed using a number of the statistical
methods such as T-test for two independent samples, Size Effect using
ETA Square, Black Modifies Gain Rank equation and T-test for the
significance difference between Person's Correlation Coefficients using
three variables.
The study result confirmed the effectiveness of the Constructional
Seven Es strategy in developing the life skills in teaching Palestinian
Science Textbook for the fifth graders through:
1. Decision-making skill had a high Size Effect with the significance
of ETA Square equaled (0.576) and acceptable statistically of the
Modified Gain Ratio which equaled (1.34).

2. The environmental performance skills had a high Size Effect with


the significance of ETA Square equaled (0.944) and acceptable
statistically of the Modified Gain Ratio which equaled (1.32).


3. Communication skills had a high Size Effect with the significance
of ETA Square equaled (0.774) and acceptable statistically of the
Modified Gain Ratio which equaled ( 1.36).

Also, the study showed that there was not a correlation at (0.01) in the
post measurement between the students marks in the experimental group on
decision-making skill measurement, observation cards of the environmental
performance skills and the communication skills test.
In the light of those results, the study recommended the necessity of
encouraging and training the supervisors and the teachers of Palestinian
Science Textbook to implement the Seven Es strategy through preparing
and applying lessons, giving the students opportunities for exploring,
expanding scientific knowledge and relating it with the real situations
which face them during the life skills practicing; focusing on planning
Palestinian Science Textbook according on the procedures of the seven Es
strategy, preparing Science Guide Books for the teachers of the science
Textbook including appropriate activities. So, the researcher suggested
studies to examine the effectiveness of the Constructional Seven Es
strategy in developing the life skills in Palestinian Science Textbook for the
students in the different grads.
