MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Morgan Reed

PART A: For this project, the students will be creating podcasts about Native Americans and then posting it to our class blog.
They will individually be assigned a specific topic that covers part of the standard SS4H1. They will then go out and do their own
research on that part and include it in a podcast for the rest of the class to listen to. For the students that know any Native
Americans, they will go out and interview them based on the topic they received so they can share real life information from
someone they know with the class.
Grade Level: 4th
Content Area: Social Studies
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: SS4H1 The student will describe how early
Native American cultures developed in North America.
a. Locate where Native Americans settled with emphasis on the Arctic (Inuit), Northwest (Kwakiutl),
Plateau (Nez Perce), Southwest (Hopi), Plains (Pawnee), and Southeast (Seminole).
b. Describe how Native Americans used their environment to obtain food, clothing, and shelter
Brief Description of Learning Experience: We will cover the information about the standard in
class. We will also discuss how to create a podcast in class. After we do that, the students will
individually do research on their topic. Then, they will create a podcast on their information while at
school. This project will take place over the course of a week if everything goes as planned.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: This is a LoTi level 4 or 5 depending on if the student gets to
interview someone that they know that is Native American.

Importance of technology: I think the podcast really makes the project more intriguing for the students. They actually
get to do something on their own, and then the other students in the class get to listen to their fellow classmates. We will also be
using the blog in this lesson because that is where they are going to be uploading their podcast to.

Inspiration (optional): I made up my own multimedia lesson!

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The students will have to include music in their podcasts, so
there is a chance the music they use may not be music they are able to use based on the copyrights.
