independent nation.
France is in Western
Europe and is home to
medieval cities, alpine
villages, and
Mediterranean beaches.
The capital of France is
Paris.

THE NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL WAS BUILT
The Notre Dame
Cathedral was built
between 1163-1345.
Notre-Dame de Paris
(which means our lady of
Paris)is located in the
heart of the city. It is one
of the largest churches in
the world, and the most
popular monument in all
of France.

THE HUNDRED YEARS WAR WITH ENGLAND
The Hundred Years
War was a series of
battles with long
periods of peace in
between.

FRANCE JOINS THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
France recognizes America
as an independent nation
and not part of England.

THE LOUVRE MUSEUM
The Louvre Museum is the
biggest museum in the world.
It is so big that it is impossible
to see it all in one day. It is
652,000 sq. ft. and contains
380,000 objects. One of the
most famous paintings in the
world is kept there. It is
Leonardo Da Vincis Mona
Lisa. In 1793 it was opened to
the public and had only 537
pieces of art.

THE FRENCH FLAG WAS ADOPTED
The blue represents the
countrys truth and loyalty.
White represents the honesty
and peace of the country.
The red represents bravery
and strength.

THE EIFFEL TOWER WAS BUILT
The Eiffel Tower was built in
1889 as the entrance to the
Worlds Fair. It was named
after Gustave Eiffel. The Eiffel
Tower is 1,050 ft. tall. To get to
the top you have to walk up
1,665 steps. Since it opened
there have been over 250
million visitors.

Germany declares war on
France. This war ended in
1918.

WORLD WAR 2
France declares war on
Germany. This war ended in
1945.
